I went on a tour with a group from a mosaic making class. This place really has a lot to see and inspire as a mosaic maker. The beauty of the works and their state of preservation was phenomenal.

This historic church, world-famous for its Gothic and Byzantine art, is actually in Classe, about five kilometres outside Ravenna. Easily reached by a cheap, regular bus service (Route No. 4) running from Ravenna station. Well worth a morning trip from Ravenna and not to be confused with the equally impressive St Apollinare in the town centre, if you can avoid... More

You need a car for this one, located 6 km. south of Ravenna. The mosaics were good, but not as good as Sant'Apollinare Nuovo which is in town. You can miss this one if time is an issue.

If you have a car especially..Impressive altar mosaics and sarcophagi. But if you see this after the "new" st Apolllinare and S vitale in town you might not be so impressed..

An amazing attraction. The mosaics are up high but the area is large so you can view them at your leisure . Sometimes in buildings like this it pays to take opera glasses or small binoculars to get all the detail. If you are short on time in Ravenna, then this church as well as San Vitale and the Mausoleum... More

Ravenna has an awful lot to offer when it comes to world heritage sites. But don't forget the Basilica in Classe. It's outside Ravenna, but try to get there because the Basilica, and it's mosaics, are very well worth the visit. A tiny village with an immensely large church, adorned with stunning (and must see) mosaics. They are as famous... More

Pay 11 Euro for the pass to see the major mosaic attractions. One of the basilicas was 9 euro to enter, so for 11 you get a pass to all the majors which can easily be walked, 10-15 min tops from one to the furthest away, and most are very close. Many of the mosaics are absolutely amazing. Worth at... More

We were not sure it was worth it, not much of mosaic, besides it is in remote location from the city where taxis rip off tourists (definitely do not book Radiotaxi de Ravenna that adjacent hotel has a deal with unless you want to be charger 12 EUR pick up charge!)

The latest of Ravenna's mosaic is the most tranquil and exquisite. It praise the beauty of the world and prays for peace.
