We spend our days going from one structure to the next. Mosaics, architecture! All fascinating. The prices are also very affordable!

Perhaps not quite as stunning as some of the mosaics in central Ravenna but well worth the short bus ride (no. 4 from outside the station).

A very good example of the classic mosaic of Ravenna. It's a bit out of town but worth a trip (we went by bike). It's a trip that you can combine with visiting the shore if you like.

We were told that this was a MUST SEE location so we drove out to Classe on our way out of Ravenna to Bologna. While it was lovely inside, it was nothing compared to the beauty in Basilica San Vitale and Galla's mausoleum

It isn't too often you get to visit a world capital! While this isn't the most ornate or beautiful church in Italy, for the historian, it is like visiting the coliseum. As Ravenna was the ancient capital of the western Roman Empire, this church was built around that time. There is something magical to stand and look out at the... More

One of the 'Must See' churches outside the city centre and well worth the effort of getting there. Mosaics are stunning and the church has a serene ambience. For those into Roman/Byzantine history well worth combining with a trip to the Old Roman Port of Classe just up the road

Classe is the old Roman port located about 15-20 minutes away (by car) from the historical center of Ravenna, where the majority of the mosaics are located. I enjoyed visiting this site; the basilica is much larger, and the mosaics are beautiful, though they aren't as spectacular as San Vitale or some of the others in Ravenna. If you have... More

Though not as mesmerizing as Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, it's certainly worth a visit. Easily reachable by taking bus number 4 in Piazza Caduti.

The mosaics are the attraction and they are outstanding but I also love to photograph the exteriors of these remarkable buildings.

This beautiful old basilica is very large, and it takes awhile to take in all the beauty it has to offer. The mosaics are lovely, but very high up, near the ceiling, so be prepared to crane your neck.
