We tried to stop in all the monuments on the UNESCO list while in Ravenna. This one certainly deserves to be on there. The mosaics are very large scale as is the columned church on the inside. Loads of artwork as well. Not to be missed.

yes this is worth the stop but no detour, when you come from Ravenna centre and you just visited the mosaics over there, this one is little bit a second best/ beautiful but not as good as the ones in Ravenna. But stays a magnificent set of mosaic pieces in a nice setting.

This Basilica has Christ depicted in a Classic style in mosaics with much flora and fauna native to the are surrounding him. The side panels are magnificent.

Take the bus from opposite the train station. You can't miss it when you get there. Nothing else to see at Classe but the basilica alone is worth the trip.

This is the only one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Ravenna that cannot be reached on foot in the center of Ravenna. To get there, you can take the #4 bus to Classe, from Piazza Caduti or the Ravenna train station -- I paid 2 euros each way, buying my ticket from the driver in each case. It... More

This is a different shaped church, no pews and celebrating many Saints, both male and female. Both sides of the church have mosaics which tell a story starting at the alter. The mosaics are unbelievable. They must be seen. The floor does not have mosaics which I found unusual when you compare to the other Churches in the area. While... More

This is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The church, dating for the 6th Century AD, contains some beautiful mosaics. It is one of Italy's best examples of Byzantine art. The mosaics are quite remarkable. This is definitely worth a stop if you have the time.

I went on a tour with a group from a mosaic making class. This place really has a lot to see and inspire as a mosaic maker. The beauty of the works and their state of preservation was phenomenal.
