Although this basilica is located just outside of the historic center of Ravenna, it is worth a visit. It's one of the most beautiful, serene and frequently photographed mosaic apses in the world.

A must see basilica. Built in 500 and superbly maintained this is an imposing church in the middle of nowhere. The simplicity and the purity of the architecture is only matched by the quality and amount of mosaics inside. A true gem.

The least visited of the Ravenna Mosaics is Classe. It can be a pain to get to but does not disappoint. The mosaics are over 1,450 years old and have some wonderful themes.

There are so many beautiful mosaics in Ravenna that you might have to forego this one. It's far out of town and the several others are all within a 15-20 minute walk from the train station. If you're coming in from Ravenna from Venice or Florence/points east, you just might not have time. And I'd place Sant'Apollinare in Classe as... More

The basilica is great, with the other one with the same name in Ravenna, you can see the best collection of mosaics in Italy. The place outside is not very welcoming, big parking lot with no trees and shade, long walk to get to the basilica, no possibility for car or buses to bet closer, so handicapped people will be... Entrance fee part of discounted Museum Multi-ticket, NOT Church discounted Multi-ticket. Worth a detour on way home. Another stunning mosaic. Beautiful setting. Not a lot there, but wanted to visit all the sites on this one off trip to Ravenna.

This Basilica is situated outside Ravenna and is not part of the composite ticket that you can purchase at a discount rate for visiting key sites . Frankly it is just not comparable with the other Basilicas in Ravenna. We were also pestered by beggars

Another very special place in Ravenna. The mosaics are outstanding and surround the top space of the interiors of the basilica.

This is wonderful example to Byzantine architecture complete with fantastic mosaics and must not be missed when visiting Ravenna. It is out of town, but there is a regular bus and a restaurant close by. Entry used to be free for senior citizens, but this year it costs 5€ (upkeep costs oblige)

First, you have to take a bus there and then the tickets are not part of the overall 4 site ticket so the total for this alone was 28 euros, which was way too high. Second, they have the entire exterior fenced off, so you can't take a good photo of the outside and walk in the trees around the... More
