Another great place in Ravenna where could experience the brilliant mosaic work and best of byzantine art culture. The whole mosaic work and the interiors of the place make it definitely a worthy visit and I also like the garden with those statues. In whole the place is beautiful and in my experience does not have too many crowds so... More

Last stop of our Byzantine tour in Ravenna. Visiting the Basilica at the end of the day was an excellent choice since we found few other tourists and we were so lucky they had a guide. Great mosaic with a lot of early christianity symbols. The most fascinating thing is that those symbols have still a lot in common with... More

This exceptional example of early christian art is about 5 kilometres outside Ravenna, but is essential viewing. We went by the frequent bus service from outside the train station.Of all the churches we visited this is perhaps the most impressive.

Loved the Mosaics....the blues and gold I can never get enough of ....but the line ups of school children that push and create a rushed experience of this timeless art is bothersome. I think Ravenna has to rethink this...The Basilica was disrespected for such a sacred place of art and prayer. Having soooo many school children make their way through... More

More gorgeous mosaics. Somewhat outside of Ravenna, but worth a visit if you can get there. Amazing sarcophagi.

Of all of the byzantine era mosaics, I liked the apse of this church the best. It is concave and gives the viewer a sense of flying or perhaps falling. I've never seen anything like it even with IMAX and all our modern technology. And this one is almost 1500 years old. It's one train stop from Ravenna toward Rimmini... More

Basically all Monuments in Ravenna worth the visit, but this one is not to be missed. Being more tan 1000 years old looks like just built despite the time passed and the enemy armies and vandals destructive activities. Take your time to visit

The mosaic's over the alter are well worth the trip - stating the obvious I guess for this World Heritage Centre.

There are many wonderful sights in Ravenna and this is unmissable. This Byzantine treasure will surely take your breath away. You can take a bus to it but it is only a pleasant 15 minute walk from the station.

The colours of this mosaic are extraordinary in their freshness and the musculature of the sheep, the birds in flight, flowers and singular trees are astounding and delightful. Standing beside the basilica, it is hard to imagine Classe as the busy port it once was. There is a good information board on the left-hand side of the nave, which shows... More
