We sat outside at the restaurant with the upside-down parasols in the warm spring evening sipping our aperitivos and eating the little snacks accompanying the drinks. This Italian evening ritual is simply great - so relaxing and friendly, with a background gentle hum of conversation. The piazza has lots of character, bordered by old and interesting buildings with the the... More

Pretty buy not really "grande" as it's called. Interesting to watch the locals converge around the plaza. I guess, most if them attract locals and foreigners alike. The market is tucked in one of the alleys. It is not that big but it serves it's purpose. There is a pizza place in one of the corners facing inside the piazza.... More

It's not really "grande", but it's a typical Italian main square. It's the nominal centre of town with the usual important buildings around: Duomo, Museo Lapidario, Torre, Palazzo Comunale etc. Behind the arcades there are shops, bars, restaurants. It's not very different from other main squares in other Italian cities, but you can't say you visited Modena without taking a... More

Piazza Grande is the center of Modena. Its a very small town with a cute square. The Duomo and Ghirlandina tower occupy the center of the square and there is a tourist information center there as well. The walk to the center of town is really easy but you can take a cab there as well. It was a sunny... More

A nice piazza, but nothing more than that. Maybe I am just overwhelmed with all the piazzas in Italy. There is a restaurant called Caffe Concerto at the piazza. They serve a great lunch buffet.

This is your typical Italian Piazza, cobble stoned, surrounded by wonderful architecture, slightly dirty which for me adds to the rustic beauty that I love about italy. The piazza is surrounded by cafe bars, restaurants and shops. We visited during a public holiday so during lunch and evening times it was very bustling but we also made use on our... More

Very nice piazza with restaurants around, the Cathedral is undergoing exterior renovation so is covered with scaffold.

It is a typical Italian square but if you like these, you will like this as well. The area boasts a wide variety of small bars, cafes, restuarants and designer shops (of course). If you are in Modena, you ought to see it.

Really very nice, with monumental buildings all around. I love sitting at the local cafes, having a coffee or a beer, enjoying the view. Last october some parts of the cathedral were covered due to restoration works. Don't visit Piazza Grande wearing high heels: it's covered with cobblestones.

This place is such a must see that it is really not necessary to write anything about it. Mantova might well be one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. Take time to stroll around at your leisure and do not forget to buy some typical food like the mustards, rice grown locally, truffles and salami.
