Surprised by the quality

Coming here made me realise how substandard the quality of balsamic vinegar is - that I am familiar with. I bought the 6 and 12 yr products. Fantastic place to visit.

Villa San Donnino is a gorgeous estate in Modena that offers informative and fun Balsamic Vinegar tours. It's incredibly interesting to learn about this DOP product, that is inherently local and sustainable. Davide and his wife offer a great experience for travelers to learn about the detailed and time consuming process of making Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. Highly recommended!... More

My son and I came to Modena from Australia with high hopes of learning more about balsamico, and Davide and Christina gave us an amazing tour, full of information and beautiful products. Mille grazie! Highly recommend a visit.

We were the only people at the acetaia, so we received a private tour. We started in the the beautiful garden learning about how balsamic vinegar is made. We got to taste vinegars of varying ages, including some on ice cream! Then we toured the attic where the barrels are stored. This had been easily arranged via email before we... More

Beyond fast cars, well-known fashion houses, and music - Italy is the heart of amazing food. True Italian cuisine is not overpowered by garlic or red sauce. It is made with simple fresh ingredients that are transformed by knowing hands into something more, something unexpected and yet familiar at the same time. This was our experience with Villa San Donnino.... More

Davide and his wife are experts in their field and display great passion and knowledge. The tour is a free education on traditional balsamic vinegar production, not to be mistaken with commercial balsamic vinegar of Modena.......😐😐 (who knew) The property is stunning as are the products for sale! Take your wallet as you will, no doubt be swept away in... More

A really interesting tour. We booked by email and had our tour on a Sunday afternoon after stopping at a lovely restaurant nearby for lunch. The tour was very informative (by the owner himself and in English). We were really keen to learn all about the traditional method of making balsamic vinegar and Davide makes it very enjoyable. You can... More

We were so interested in learning about the making of traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena that we reserved our tour 4 months in advance. We were not disappointed. We arrived at 9am on a Sunday (10 am is a better choice). Mr Davide Lonardi, the grandson of the original owner gave the two of us a personal tour of the... More

The tour contained just the right amount of information to be enjoyable and informative without being overly fact heavy. Tasting was excellent and they produce some amazing high quality balsamic vinegars. The tour is free, but the shop is open at the end and I highly recommend you purchase something! The tour guide spoke very good english and was very... More

Coming in from town, you drive past the Ristorante San Donnino, past the bridge and it's the black metallic gate on your left. We called when we were 15 mins away to see if we can join the tour. No one answered the phone, but someone called us back and said that we can come by for a tour. When... More
