I participated in a cooking class with Barbara and Valeria in April of 2015. I was the only participant on this particular day, so it ended up being a private lesson (the ladies were quite gracious about it – I hadn’t pre-paid, so they could have cancelled but didn’t). My morning started with a market tour, which was very informative.... More

We appreciated the attention to detail - the reason why things were done a certain way. No pasta machine here - it was a fun experience to learn to make pasta the way Italians historically made theirs.

I was extremely lucky in that there was only 1 other student in my class. Barbara and Valeria are excellent instructors. We learned some techniques that I hadn't known before, and we made 3 different pastas and sauces. At the end, we sat down together to eat our creations - along with a nice bottle of wine. This was a... More

We spend two days of training in Italian /Bolognese cooking. We have been very satisfied with our stay and training output. Il Salotto de Penelope is a ver nice and charming place. Valerie and Barbara are two most experienced trainers with high knowledge on Italian cooking. It is not the usual curriculum learning, but they are open for the ideas... More

Barbara and Valeria could not have been more accommodating. They made a special menu to accommodate the vegetarians! We learned the steps of making three great pastas: tagliatelle, tortoloni, and gnocchi, as well as the sauces. (They send the recipes to you at home). We had plenty of opportunity to try to make the different shapes of pastas, and the... More

My husband and I truly enjoyed our morning with Barbara and the two other ladies who were joining the lesson. Although we have made pasta at home many times, we learned so much from Barbara, and cannot wait to try the recipes and her ideas on our own!! This is a wonderful experience and we would recommend this to anyone... More

I love Italy, and I've had so many wonderful experiences that it is difficult to write about just one. However, my time spent taking cooking lessons at Il Salotto di Penelope has got to be right up there with enjoyable moments to remember. I was fortunate to have two very savvy chefs (Chef Barbara and Chef Valeria) teach me some... More

We arrived at "IL SALOTTO DI PENELOPE" with our two children (age 10 and 7.5) to learn the secrets of pasta cooking. Barbara and Valeria were wonderful, patient and kind and gave us a pleasant and enriching class, with many explanations about cooking pasta For us it was a unique and fascinating experience, like being on a reality cooking show.... I did the market tour of Bologna's food shops and a cooking class with Valeria. It was great to have a knowledgeable and engaging guide and teacher to speak about the culture, history and culinary tidbits of the area. It was very nice to cook in a large professional kitchen space. We made delicious fluffy gnocchi and the best tagliatelli... More
