I have been offering market-to-table classes since 1999 and love to share my knowledge of the wonderful produce and products in the market, and of the gastronomic and social history behind the dishes we make. It's not just about the recipes, though you get plenty of cooking and presentation tips. The classes are hands-on cooking for one person or in tiny little groups of 2, 3 or 4 at most (but up to 6 if family or friends travelling together). It is all very relaxed, informal and enjoyable and I do my utmost to give you a memorable day and a great culinary experience. Take one class or several classes, as your time allows, and for groups of 4 or more, my customised 3 night residential classes in the countryside are a fun way to spend time together. I also offer short half day classes, and a morning market food tour ending in a light lunch to introduce you to Bologna, its history and its food. Email me for more information and thanks for reading all of this! « less

A friend and I have been talking about taking a cooking class in Italy for over 10 years. We finally did it and boy, did we choose the right one! The day we spent with Carmelita in Bologna was fabulous, a great combination of serious learning and lots of fun. First we sat and reviewed the menu that Carmelita suggested.... More

While my husband did business in Bologna I was lucky enough to take a cooking class with Carmelita - what a treat! We spent the first several hours looking through the market and not only did I learn about food, Italian food (how many kinds of artichokes they have compared to us!) and cooking, I also learned about culture, asked... I have cooked with Carmelita three times while in Bologna for business, and each time have felt more connected to the food capitol of the universe, it feels like I live there! She is a delightful woman with a great spirit and shares her passion for Bologna and love of cooking. She always works with clients to prepare a menu... More

We 3 friends spent a day cooking with Carmelita. We started out shopping for the food in the local market & got an interesting lesson on the local foods available, as well as how to shop there. We went to the butcher shop, cheese shop & bakery as well. It was so exciting to see how the Italian people move... More

I had private weekend cooking class with Carmelita in Bologna at Feb. 2014. The experience was fantastic, and opened the entrance for me to know the real Italian food culture. We visited the market, butcher's shops, vegetable shops, bakery, and taste the vinegar. Carmelita guided me about the food, the history, the different culture of different regions. We also discussed what... More

Dear Neosu Thank you for posting photos from your winter weekend class with me, and of course also for the many nice things you say in your review. I've just completed 1 1/2 days with the masterful Carmelita who gently gave me on an extraordinary cooking lesson. I was keen to have an authentic less formulaic experience and put myself in her hands regarding the menu. This proved to be a wise choice as she developed our menu based on what is seasonal and looked good in the... More

The best activity in Bologna. I took a 1/2 day cooking/food shopping class with Carmelita of Cooking Italy on my last day in Bologna, it turned out to be my very best day. I only regret that I didn't take Carmelita's class my first day as she took me to the best kitchen shop, chocolate shop, espresso cafe, wine shop,... More

We were fortunate enough to book a tour of the markets and food shops in Bologna with Carmelita. Normally, a tour can be exhausting, and at some point you reach your absorption. This was not so with Carmelita. It has everything to do with her wonderful personality and her knowledge, not just about the markets, etc. but about so much... More
