Practice makes perfect in Carmelita’s kitchen. I had a fantastic experience learning to cook Italian in Bologna with Carmelita Caruana (Cook Italy). I not only learned about Italian cooking, but also about Bolognese culture and customs. Carmelita is well versed in the history of the city. To begin, Carmelita took me on a tour of the market where vendors sell... More

Carmelita is very knowledgeable, personable and communicates easily and fluently. Her walking/buying tour of the market in the City Center is both historically fascinating, informative, and a visual delight. On the walking tour she buys the food and wine that will be used in the cooking class which is very near the market. She is a very experienced teacher, and... More

A good insight into the food and cooking tequniques of Bologna. A must do activity whilst in this lovely City, if you are even the slightest bit interested in the local cuisine. Amateur cooks as well as experienced home cooks are well catered for by Carmeleta who is a natural teacher and a fountain of foodie knowledge.

There are other cooking classes in Bologna. You don't work in a restaurant kitchen or get an apron. What you get with Carmelita is an experience you will not soon forget. Don't eat breakfast because after you meet Carmelita takes you on an adventure around the markets of Bologna tasting meats, cheeses, and the best chocolates in Italy. After you... More

I learned so much about the Bolognese (and Italian) culture from Carmelita's class. The tour of the markets to see and purchase farm fresh veggies, meats and cheeses was eye-opening. Carmelita shares history about the country, town, guilds, buildings and food. Fascinating! The cooking class is very hands on with a delicious end result! Don't be afraid to ask questions... More

I love your review with its emphasis not only on the "delicious end result" but also on how gathering insights into Bologna's gastronomic history is a great way to learn the culture. It's always an extra pleasure for me when my cooking class guests are as perceptive, receptive and appreciative as you are. A big thank you! More

My family first had the pleasure of meeting Carmelita 3 years ago on our initial trip to Europe. On planning a return trip to Italy, my husband and I knew we had to spend more time with this wonderful lady. Her passion for and knowledge of food is remarkable - we learn more and more each day in her company.... More

I get a great big smile on my face when I think back to the two days spent with the two of you out and about in the markets and cooking and laughing and eating in my kitchen. I too can't wait for you to return a third time! Thank you for the renewed thumbs up, and a presto! More

If you're going to Bologna for the food (and who isn't?) spending time with Carmelina is a must-do. Our tour of the marketplace, with her insight into the traditional foods of Bologna, was comprehensive and entertaining. What we learned about balsamic vinegar was worth the price alone. And oh, those chocolates! We felt like we got a real insiders view... More

We had a fantastic time with Carmelita. She was exceedingly generous with her time and knowledge. It was a highlight of our trip to cook sumptuous italian food, in a beautiful italian home with a local!! Tasting all the regional delicacies was a real treat and they kept on coming!! Could not recommend enough.
