Owner description: Now offering Bargain Bologna Weekend Breaks, from December to end March. Cook Italy has been offering market-to-table classes since 1999, at a very central location. They are are hands-on classes for one person or tiny groups of 2, 3 or 4 (up to 6 if family or friends travelling together). Suitable for beginners, experienced home cooks, professional chefs and families with children. I do my utmost to give you a memorable day and a great culinary experience and teach all the classes personally. And if you or your travelling partner/s don't fancy cooking, I offer a morning market food tour ending in a light lunch to introduce you to Bologna, its history and its food.

Our cooking class with Carmelita was the highlight of our visit to Bologna – a treat for lovers of good food made with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Our class began with a shopping tour of the local markets and fine food purveyors for our recipe ingredients. Along the way, we were also treated to samples of handcrafted chocolates, enjoyed a tasting... More

I had a few truly stand-out days in my 6 weeks in Italy - my day with Carmelita was one of them. I crashed another couple's class a few days before it was scheduled and everyone was very gracious to have me. As you've read, we met early morning at the market for a wonderful tour and shopping. Carmelita knows,... More

We began our Italian culinary adventure in Bologna, the culinary epicenter of Northern Italian cuisine. Our guide and cooking instructor in Bologna was Carmelita We had a wonderful time visiting the local shops and stalls where we purchased the fresh meat, cheese and vegetables we used to prepare our meal. We discovered Romanesco Cauliflower that was unlike anything we had... More

This cooking class with Carmelita was by far the highlight of my trip to Italy. I give my highest recommendation that you should take a class with Carmelita if you have an opportunity!!! Carmelita Caruana is delightful. The morning tour of the 1000 year old Mercato di Mezzi was worth the cost of the day. It is a walking history lesson about Bologna, about the food, and about the shops ... a real vacation highlight. Cooking with Carmelita is fun, relaxing, and informative. The lunch that we prepared together was delicious. Highly recommended!... More

Italy is all about the food right. I wanted to see exactly how Italians do it, not only be on the receiving end of ordering meals. I wanted to see how the real Italian shop and gather ingredients and then see how it is put together as well as how to enjoy it. I wanted it all AND above all,... More

I have been in Italy for three months and my day with Carmelita of CookItaly last week, wandering the market in Bologna, learning about the local cuisine, and the best shops to buy the very best ingredients was one of the best I have had. I learned how to identify the top hand made tortellini, recognize properly cured prosciutto, tasted... More

I have been to Bologna many times but on this occasion decided to go with a friend and find a short cooking course. Carmelita met us in the morning at our hotel and we went with her to the fabulous food market to purchase the ingredients for our varied menu. The menu was a combination of her suggestions and our... We met Carmelita near the market area of Bologna and spent a couple hours walking the market and buying fresh produce for the meal we were to later cook. This was very informative as she told us about some of the traders and shops and a little about their histories, she also took us to a shop where we could... More
