We are happy to teach you how to prepare authentic Italian dishes and although we are friendly, we are also quite serious about teaching you the right way to make these dishes and ensuring that you will be able to replicate these back home. Your success back home is our objective. We are professional and experienced but not stuffy or arrogant. Our specialty is pasta making, the old fashioned way; the way the Italian grandma's still make it (with wood rolling pin and board)! You will make several pasta shapes and sauces and won't miss anything! We also teach how to cook with fresh local ingredients like Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, Traditional Balsamic Vinegar, Bologna Mortadella and Prosciutto from Parma. We naturally, also use fresh meats, seafood and seasonal vegetables and fruit.Lessons are personalized and held in small groups (1-3, up to 6 if related or very good friends) to assure plenty of one on one attention. Our hands-on cooking lessons are held in a home setting. No surcharge for single participants or private lessons. Discounts for children. Lessons available in English, Spanish or Italian. The day we spent with Maribel was incredible. The visit of the market that included tasting of fresh product was amazing. We got to choose our menu while walking through great fresh food product. The cooking lesson was interesting and really hands-on. And the end product...you have to try it! Maribel is very hospitable, interesting and skilled. The experience is... More

Taking a cooking lesson in Bologna is particularly appropriate given the area's reputation for great food, and Taste of Italy did not disappoint. We had a very informative lesson with Joanna, who showed us the techniques for making 2 pasta shapes as well as how to make 2 delicious springtime sauces. We may not always have the time to make... This was one of our favorite things we did on our travels through Italy. The market tour is a wonderful way to start the morning. Joanna was our instructor and market tour guide, and she is delightful. She speaks wonderful English which was very handy since we do not speak Italian. We thoroughly enjoyed learning how to make several wonderful... More

My husband and I had a great time learning from Maribel at Taste of Italy. We took the market tour and got a chance to taste some Italian balsamic vinegar, see all types of food, meat and learn where some of the Italian vegetables come from and why they taste so good. Maribel was great, she was able to accommodate... More

We had a fabulous cooking lesson at Taste of Italy in Bologna - one of our memorable experiences in Italy! Maribel is a knowledgeable instructor and cook - we not only learned how to make and form pasta by hand and from scratch, but also a wide range of culinary techniques, helpful tips, and information about the ingredients, recipes, shapes,... We were in Bologna in November and decided to take a cooking class. Based on the reviews here, we decided to go with Taste of Italy. We were a group of 4 and did the traditional class. We met around 8:30 near the markets and Maribel took us through all the shops and stands. We visited the fish stand, butcher,... More

I don't usual write a second review but can't stay silent to the ridiculous review by the recent reviewer. I agree with the rebuttal that it is clearly fake. I first went in April 2013 when i received a 5 lesson gift from friends. I wrote about the first two classes, but the other lessons were as fantastic and different.... More

Alex was a fantastic guide and host. Her knowledge of the market and relationship with the shops was invaluable. She was also a very patient mentor and a delight to learn from. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Maribel was also very flexible and responsive in organizing a class for us on only one day's notice!

We met Alex in a little cafe and then explored the Bologna market to gather fresh ingredients for the days menu. We learned to make Ragu and pasta from scratch and this was truely the highlight of our trip!
