We entered this area by descending from many stairs. That allowed us to get a view of the whole area and added to the experience. Standing in an area viewed only previously on television was a little surreal.

Loved the statues, gazing back at St. Peter's ... just being there and feeling like you're a part of the Vatican. And I'm not even Catholic! A very special place.

On two different occasions, we have been fortunate enough to be able to attend mass with two Popes in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, Italy. Each time as they passed by us in the Pope Mobile, I experienced chills running up and down my arms. What a wonderful thing to experience.

Talk about beautiful. This place is stunning in the day time and at night. It's massive and you just get sucked in. I couldn't stop taking pictures. I was in awe. The fountains are beautiful as well. You can get some great night time shots of the fountain and in front of them.

The first sight of St. Peter's Square takes your breath away. The vast openess, the sun shining through the pillars, the symmetry - is a sight to behold. The square is spiritual in itself. Best seen early in the morning, as it can get hot the rest of the day (in summer).

The square is worth a visit and it is quite stunning. The artwork on the top of the crescent walls is great and the views of the Basilica are very good indeed. The square gets quite busy but as it is vast this is not a problem. There is a van from the Vatican post office where you can buy... More

Now you know where the Pope speaks and where people gather. HUGE space, and it was NOT crowded when we went. Lots of space to move around. Be sure to stop here....

Every tour of St. Peter's Basilica begins and ends at the square. If you don't get a Rome Omnia card that lets you bypass the lines, you will spend a lot of time in St. Peter's Square where the lines wind around the square as people wait to enter St. Peter's Basilica. There you can see the balcony where the... More
