We went to the square during a Papal Mass (Palm Sunday) and it was truly phenomenal. If you are Catholic and have some flexibility in travel dates, find out when the Pope is leading the mass. The experience is amazing and by far my favourite experience of our visit to Italy. You have to pre-book tickets (which are free) via... More

Wednesday, April 25, 2012-Liberation Day in Italy and the pope was there for a papal audience. I guess he is there most Wednesdays so they close St. Peter's Basilica until 1pm. The crowds were huge all day long so it was next to impossible to get into the Basilica. The Basilica has a dress code so beware(no bare shoulders or... More

No visit to Rome is complete without experiencing the sheer size of St. Peter's square. We've visited this magnificent square twice - once when it was almost empty and the second time when it was packed with over half a million people who came to the Easter ceremony with the Pope blessing the audiences in dozens of languages. The square... More

Saint Peters Square is the front yard of the Basillica. It is well worth looking at, despite the huge throngs of people. More

As a person of Christian faith, this was a spiritual experience to visit during Easter. The area was very open and clean even with the mass amounts of people that were attending. More

Arrived just after eight and it was totally empty, save for some nuns and priests. It was eerie to see all the empty chairs that I had only ever seen packed on tv. There are washrooms and a post office in the square, but not much shade or places to sit. There is a nice obelisk in the centre, surrounded... More
