We went for the Papal Audience on Wednesday. I highly suggest that you get their well before 8:30 am. At 8:30am the crowd forms and makes it difficult to navigate.

This is a great place to come and marvel at the intricate architecture of the colonnades surrounding the square, and of course to admire the centrepiece - St. Peter's basilica.

If you want to see the Pope then go on a Wednesday morning for 10'clock Mass. The crowds are huge so go early. If you have a wheelchair then you are looked after and catered for. They bring you up to the front of the crowds so your not "in" the crowd.Really enjoyed the experience.

We visited the day before a Papal address & thesquare was set up with chairs for his audience - without them you don't appreciate how many people it accommodates!

You can step into the square which is testimonial for most of the major papal pronouncements and it is a wonderful place to snap some pictures etc.

A very large square which offers views of the basilica and a great deal of the Vatican buildings. Impressive architecture.

The square is always busy, but it's beautiful. If the Pope's in attendance, it'll be even busier, but it's worth the trip!

Get to St. Peter's Square early on Sunday morning if you want to attend mass & stick around until noon to see Pope Francis give a prayer and a blessing (in Italian,) or come a little later if you want to sleep in or attend a local mass someplace else. The Square has a great vibe as people from around... More

My Mom, my Down Syndrome sister and I visited this incredible square for Saint Pope John Paul Cannonization and it was extreamlly crowded, but is such an indescriptible experience getting the chanc e to see POPE FRANCISCUS! Actually, at the Cannonization which was held on Sunday, the POPE goes through the "hallways" very fast, but for the Wednesday's Audiences, he... More

Key-shaped because of the keys of St Peter. Bear in mind that depending on what arrangements you've made, the time, the day, the season, the weather, the liturgical calendar, etc, it may take some time to actually get into the church - first you queue, then there are security checks… - so plan accordingly.
