It was so interesting to see this place for myself. I could not believe how many people were in the square, this place is so busy. The queues for both the Vatican and for St Peters basilica was incredible. The queue was over an hours wait. Fun to see where the Pope speaks from.

We happened upon a day when the Pope was holding service. We got there just in time for the English translation. Must say that it was a very moving experience to be there during mass rather than just wondering through St. Peter's Square during a regular tour.

Such a beautiful area! Make sure you go into the Basilica but also just walk around the square and sight see.

This is a beautiful colonnaded plaza at the front of the basilica, built so that everyone present can hear (Pope Frank's) addresses The bridge across the Tiber aligns perfectly with the center of the piazza, the center of the basilica's doors, and the center of the balcony that the Pope uses for praying for the public: "Domini, Domini, Domini...You're all... When standing on circles in specific spot of the square the columns appear only one deep due to the perfect alignment of each row of 4.

I booked this through our cruise line tours, and it was great! The tour lasts all day as we went to the Colosseum first but it was definitely worth it! The details in Italy's buildings and sculptures is everything!! It makes America's building and churches look like child's play! If you are going to go to Italy this is a... More

After attending Sunday Mass in St. Peter's Basilica, we stood in St. Peter's Square in anticipation of the delivering of a benediction by Pope Francis. Although it was jam-packed with people by the time Pope Francis appeared, the crowd was very orderly and respectful, without a heavy police or security presence. The square is beautiful, clean, safe, and wide open... More

At first glance you think wow. After taking a tour and learning the history about many of the architectural features it's hard to put into words how astounding it truly is.

The square faces St. Peter's cathedral, so you can see the massive front of the church. I am not Roman Catholic, so it had no special meaning for me. It is just a huge square which you walk through to access the church. Definitely not worth a special visit unless you are going to visit St Peters, or are Roman... More

It's a public square, so you don't have to go to the Vatican to see St. Peter's, and I have to say, it is awesome to be in such an impressive and filmed Piazza. How many movies have you seen this space... and now you're IN IT. Yes.... the other half of humanity that's not IN the Vatican is IN... More
