St Peter's is a must-see for everyone in Rome. As previous reviewers have said, even if you are not "religious", you will still be amazed at the beauty of the art and architecture of the building. St Peter's square alone (the piazza in front of the basilica, ringed with columns) is breathtaking. Make sure to take the time to stand... more

Four of us from Sydney were walking in the vicinty of the Vatican and were approached by a guy named Paul with a welcome Aussie accent. Paul works for the Tour In Rome company and convinced us to beat the queues and get priority access to the Vatican and the Cistene Chapel with an English speaking guide. We have been... more

We reached Vatican City at around 9.30am and by then, the queue has already formed up to the 9 o'clock direction (basilica is 12 o'clock, museums are 3 o'clock). There were a lot of people tempting us to "jump the queue and have a private tour of the church for only €28" while we were queuing. They told us that... more

Words cannot express or describe this wonderful church. Even if you are not religious at all, you will still appreciate the engineering and architecturally feats accomplished by the dome and church. Every inch of the basilica is covered in amazing sculptures, painting and materials. The most jaw-dropping experience of my three city European vacation! We climbed to the top of... more

Please if you visit Vatican City and have the time to stop at St. Peters, pay the 15 Euro to climb to the top (Cupola) of St. Peters. You get a view of Rome unlike any other place in the entire city. It is one of the most beautiful sights in the city. The climb up is exhilarating , and... more

We went here with a tour. There is so much to see, and everything has symbolism and historical significance-it's very interesting but difficult to digest at one time. Definitely climb to the top, and then go out onto the roof. more

If ever there was a place that needs a few more chairs.... This church is huge! They could label the way to the cupola a little better. It's hard to find. The big crowd on the right is looking at Michelangelo's Pieta. The altar is unlike any you've seen. The pictures on the walls are not paintings- they're mosaics. more

Huge!

I wish we'd spent some more time here, and at least considered the trip to the top of the cupola. It is definitely beautiful inside. We'll come back if we're in Rome again. more

If you are in Sistine Chapel, head out to the “right” door to go to St Peter’s. You can go into the Pope’s Tombs and it was interesting and takes about 10 minutes. Pope John Paul's tomb is there with a spotlight and a guard. You cannot stop and look as the guard will rush you along. You can sit... more

To get to the Basilica you have to wait in two queues. The first one takes you through the x-ray where they check your luggage. We were waiting for about an hour to get through. Then you wait in the second line to get through another check point where they check your cloth. I was very disappointed that after waiting... more
