It is a thrill to wander through these gardens and discover all the different details. The fountains are amazing, & I was told that they run solely off gravity. This place is great for photography. Even an amateur can snap shots that look as good if not better than framed art you can pay $$$ for. Definitely worthwhile! more

We hired a private tour guide, Pepe, from allarounditaly.net, who was incredibly knowledgeable. We first toured the cardinal's residence, which was filled with incredible artwork and replete with fascinating history. About 45 miles outside of Rome is the mountain-top town of Tivoli. Villa d'Este is a spectacular estate and gardens located in Tivoli, about one hour from Rome via commuter train. The water features and floral plantings are fantastic and the overall experience is top-notch. The myriad types of fountains are exceptional. more

Have just visited at the end of March - narcissi, tulips and very much else in flower, and the fountains, of course, just amazing; all powered by natural waterflow too! These gardens are very well worth combining with the totally different but very compelling Villa Adriana, only a few kms away. more
