Colliseum Tour - many areas for improvement

Meeting place was impossible to find. Guide was an architectural guru and focused tour on little else.

I initially went on this tour 18 years ago and was quite excellent, but now it's not. As a matter of fact, I have recommended this tour to 20+ different visitors but will no longer. Let me explain: We booked this tour thru Grayline. We were promptly picked up at our hotel. Our tour guide for the first part of... More

Great day out. Not long enough in the Uffizi gallery though, and lunch time was a mess, with an hour of hanging around in a pretty isolated square. This could have been added on to the Uffizi visit. Great day though and smooth connections and trains

My family and I took our first vacation in Italy. We did not want to plan a tour package; we wanted to visit Italy on our own. However, we did book a few one-day and half-day tours through Carrani. The tour guides were excellent. They were easy to understand, interesting and informative. I did not feel like a tourist on... More

When in Rome do NOT go on this city tour double decker bus. Everywhere around the Vatican and St. Peters there are guys with pink vests on selling this day tour around Rome. You can identify with a heart symbol on their vests and buses. They oversell and overbook and the buses are so overcrowded you cannot see anything! The... More

Dear customer, thank you for your feedback. We are really sorry that Hop On Hop Off did'nt correspond to your expectations. Unfortunately at peak time there are really many tourists who want to take this bus, especially on high season. Best regards, customer service. More

I loved this tour! Our guide, Stefano, was incredibly talented and energetic and friendly. He went back and forth between English and Spanish with everything he said since we had some ladies that only spoke Spanish with us. The tour was fast paced, but gave is plenty of time for relaxation as well. My ONLY complaint would be that in... More

Dear reviewer, Thanks for your review. Most of our guides are art historians, that are licensed as official guides of Rome. We know people want to know more about gladiators and the bloody past of the Roman empire. But as Historians they explain facts. There are lots of legends and tales about the Colosseum, the gladiators and the life in... More

Where we were given directions and guidance for exploring Venice. We had plenty of time to tour St. Marks The tour of the Murano Glass Factory was amazing and... More

Carrani tours, teamed up with NCrown Vacations on this side of the pond and were absolutely wonderful insofar as they delivered on everything they promised and then some. There was a Mercedes waiting to take us from the airport in Rome and the same on took us back at the end of our adventure. We stayed in the same hotels... More

Had a wonderful day visiting the city of Naples and the ancient city of Pompeii. The guide Marko on the bus was helpful, humorous and very informative. We were picked from our hotel and taken to the main bus departure point. This was easy and stress free. At Pompeii a local guide took over for our tour of the ruins... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
