I've been through crypts before but this tour was only 1/2 hour with nominal information. We waited longer in the line to enter than the time we spent inside and you cannot go on your own. Don't forget they close between noon and 2:00 so you are wasting valuable vacation time. I cannot recommend it over something else. More

To really enjoy the Appian Way, after a visit to the Catacombs, go to Cecilia Metella's tomb and from there walk for the first 3km (2 miles). Do this early morning or before sunset from spring to fall, you will enjoy a unique walking experience surrounded by history and Roman relics. Cars are off limits - fortunately - but bike... More

It is amazing to know that Roman Legions travelled all over the world in roads like that, that still exist, after so many centuries. More

My family and I walked here from our apartment. There are NO signs when you arrive at the "Antico" road, that pedestrians should stay off!!! We spent two hours crawling along an ancient wall on a road with no shoulder, two way traffic of typically insane Italian driving coming within a hair of us! We were told by the information... More

We had the best day wallking along the Via Appia. There are a few restaurants but I would recommend taking a picnic as there are many pretty spots to sit and eat. More

This was built by Roman soldiers over 2000 years ago and it is still a major road. Amazing. More

I was looking for a unique way to tour the Ancient Appian Way, aqua ducts and catacombs which would be convenient, educational and fun. The logistics of this kind of trip are schetchy in guide books and reviews are pretty poor of the Archeobus, so I was delighted to find a guided biking trip with Top Bike Rental and Tours.... More

As one of the oldest roads, it was really fun to travel a road that one can imagine that original Romans traveled. This was a highlight of our trip that luckily we were able to see even on a day when the road was closed to traffic. (Our driver took a risk since it was early morning and evidently rules... More

Anyone interested in Rome's ancient history shouldn't miss a walk down the Appian Way, the first road built in the Republican era. You can get the archaology bus straight there and you can then walk 5-6 miles past the jaw-dropping remains of tombs and monuments to Rome's patrician dead which line both sides of the road. I walked as far... More
