Imagine walking up and up a never ending spiral tunneled staircase that seems to go on forever without any means of escape. Imagine a sense of panic because you realise you are in a living nightmare. There is no turning back because hordes of visitors are behind you.I am not exaggerating if I say I was scared. I never liked... more

Do not miss. But plan ahead so you don't have to wait in long lines in the hot sun! If you own an ipod, you don't need to pay for a private guide. Step 1 - buy tickets online directly from vatican website - 14 euros. Also, download Rick Steve's audioguide for free! It's the perfect amount of detail and... more

I think I don’t need to talk about it…it’s world famous so I have only 3 advices … the first one is “DON’T miss it!!!”, the second is … “get a guide!” I get one in S. Peters Square early in the morning; they are “seeking” for tourists so don’t be afraid because it’s a fair proposal: - You don’t... more

We visited the Vatican on the last Sunday of the month when the entrance is free. If it is a big family group then it is worth it but it is obviously very very busy and the queues extend right round the Vatican. It took us over an hour before we could get in but it was worth the wait... more

Vatican City is immense. I had no idea it had so much to offer. It was an expensive entrance fee but so worth it. Bring comfortable shoes and a camera, but watch out- picture taking is not allowed in many areas and you'll get kicked out if you persist. I loved Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel. My husband loved the many galleries... more

Had a great tour of the Vatican with Angel Tours Jimmy from Ireland. Very informative and we saw optical illusions in the tapestry room that the other tours just marched right on by. When our tour was over we contiued on to climb to the top of the dome. Our son told me there was an elevator. He didn't mention... more

We stood in a long line for a long long time. i don't know if it was the waiting or the reputation of the sight, but I almost was disappointed. Too many people, difficult to see things. Maybe it was just too magnificent for me! more

We just returned from spending a month in Italy, and one of the highlights of our trip was a tour of the Vatican which we booked through Roman Odessey tours - recommneded by Rick Steves in his Italy book. We received the Rick Steves discount and were very pleased with the tour - the guide was extremely knowledgable, kept a... more

My husband, two daughters (ages 13 and 11) and I hired the private company, "Through Eternity" for a private 3.5 hour tour of the Vatican. The prices seemed high at first but in the end well worth it. My daughters were entertained by Justin our tour guide, who was knowledgeable, entertaining, prompt, and a pleasure to meet. Justin made the... more

A must see! We arrived mid morning and there was a wait to get in but it went very quickly. There are people outside walking the line to see if you want to get in straight away, sounds good but it would have cost us €40 each and when asked how much it cost to get in if you waited... more
