There is much advice in TA about these museums and some of it is wrong and/or out of date. So firstly check out opening times on the official Vatican website, especially noting whether some things (such as the Sistine Chapel) are scheduled for closure on the day you intended to arrive. If like me you don´t want an organised tour... more

We ordered tickets before leaving for our trip. Well worth planning ahead. We had no wait in line and walked right in. No tour guide but picked up a set of audio phones to help us. It really does take some time to get around it all but well worth the time and energy. more

Joann knows the Vatican. She is British, speaks clearly, easy to understand and is more than qualified to answer questions about the magnificent art work. She takes you through the museums, courtyards, the Sistine Chapel, and St Peters. Small groups, less than 20, reasonably priced, feels like a private tour. more

We picked up a guided tour in St. Peter's Square, there were only 7 of us on the tour so it was a great size and they also got us into St. Peter's without having to queue as there was a back stairs from the Sistine Chapel to the Basilica. Paid €25 each as well as €12 entrance fee but... more

First off, a couple of recommendations on getting there. If you're going to take the Metro, get off at the CIPRO exit, not Ottaviano. The walking distance to the Vatican Museum entrance is about the same, and you do have to go up some stairs, but it's less crowded and you avoid the MASSIVE queue line that blocks off the... more

Suggest to avoid lines to sign up with VISTA tours with excellent and knowlegible English speeking guides . You get in without waiting in line and with headsets can hear the entire details in this fantastic museum. Dont miss the Rapheal rooms and Sistene Chapel painted by Michaelangelo. more

great tour

We took this tour with Ryan, who was a sweet heart. He was very knowledgeable, approachable, and fun. It was a wonderful tour, and we'd recommend it. more

This is an extremely popular tourist destination all through the year. The queue often ends up down 3 or 4 sides of the Vatican City walls. My advice is if you know that you're going to visit this museum book the tickets online! Try: http://www.virtual-vatican-museums.com/how-to-book.phtml It really is worth to just decide a day that you will spend in the... more

We booked with Through Eternity tours for the Vatican museums, which was a great thing. Their tour guide Ian was extremely knowledgeable and was able to make impressive art object after impressive art object quite interesting. There are some restaurants in the lower level - my husband and I chose the first one, the Posto Di Ristoro. Do NOT eat... more

We just had a truly awful visit to the Vatican Museums. The place was dangerously overcrowded particularly on the approaches to the Sistine Chapel and in the Raphael Stanza rooms. If you dont like being in the midst of people crushing into a small corridor or if you suffer from panic attacks or claustrophobia, avoid this museum. The atmosphere in... more
