I can't help but compare this to the ossuary in Sedlec, Czech Republic. The Capuchin cemetery is much smaller than the Czech site, and was far less impressive for what this is; a rather macabre spectacle. Still, it is a cemetery, and probably never intended for tourism. We visited the Capuchin crypt at Santa Maria della Concezione, a marvelously macabre and creepy site. It features amazing art made from the actual bones of Capuchin monks, and intended to remind viewers of their own mortality. It's simply incredible what artistic effects were achieved using bones as material. Weird and fascinating! more

We went to the crypt as I found some info on it when I was digging for places to visit pre-trip. The crypt is completely made up of bones of past Capuchin monks, event the chandeliers. Definitely worth a visit. more

This crypt is so out of the ordinary, it even borders on the macabre. The cryopt, if my memory serves me correclty, is arranged into about 6 or so vaults that you walk past through a small corridor. Each vault has a different layout, with alters, wall decorations, cieling rosettes etc, all made up of the bones of the deceased... more
