The Ara Pacis museum (Altar of Augustan Peace) was of great interest to us as avid Roman history buffs, though maybe not to all visitors. The altar is nicely displayed and curated, with good maps showing the original placement. We spent quite a while trying to identify all the players in the Julio-Claudian dysfunctional family depicted on the imperial procession.... more

Beautiful altar but shame about its housing. I don't dislike the building per se but I am not convinced it is the right housing for the altar. The staff were unfriendly too, at the door and inside the museum. I went to check out the Jean Prouve exhibition there but the security was just ridiculous. If you as much as... more

We visited this archaeological wonder in it's new purpose built award winning glass box-like building....and were completely disappointed. We have visited Roman monuments throughout the world and this was our worst-ever experience.
