We arrived at the alotted time of 9.45am and did not gain entry to the Vatican until 1.00pm. Hanging around with children is not a great experience for them. Then we were ushered around the Museum at top speed. Too packed inside. Rome needs to sort out how they treat their tourists.

My husband, son and I were in Rome today and wanted to visit St Peter's Basilica. We had limited time and the queue was very long. Once we arrived at the St Peters square we were approached by a pleasant young man offering us a tour with the promise of skipping any queuing, and including a guide and entry to... More

My hotel recommended this tour company in Rome, but it is unlikely we would use them again or recommend them. The price was average for our two tours, and they provided us with free tickets to the Papal Audience in St Peter's Square. Unfortunately, the meeting time was too late for us to get free seats, and we had to... More

Alberto was an excellent guide. He was so knowledgeable. Without this guide, I would have been wandering aimlessly around with my boyfriend. I learned so much that I'm going to do more reading about the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican art.

This is more of a warning than a bad review, but I felt the need to share our experience of Happy Travel Private Tours during our recent trip to Rome. My husband and I were approached outside St Peter's Square and offered a private tour that would mean skipping the 2 hour queue to get inside Vatican City. It was... More

My husband and I booked a tour with a different company at first, and after that different company wasted two hours of our time, we finally arrived at Happy Travels where Alberto immediately began our tour. Don't waste your time booking with other companies-just go straight to Happy Travels. I sure wish we did. Alberto was exciting, funny, and gave... More

We decided to visit Vatican City on a Thursday as the Pope usually holds an audience on Wednesdays if in Rome and we wanted to avoid huge crowds and waiting times. We also didn't want to wake up too early. How wrong we were! As we approached St Peter's Square we were greeted by many people annoyingly trying to sell... More

On arriving at St. Peter's Square, we were confronted with the daunting prospect of a 3 hour queue. Reluctantly, we decided to investigate the advertisement puffs of the nearby Tour Guide Information Desk offering the opportunity to skip the line. Immediately, we were put into a group and introduced to the rest of the group and our Tour Guide, Alberto.... More

When me and my friend arrived at St. Peter's square, the line if get into the church were extremely long. A young lady talked us into taking a two hour tour, promising us that we wouldn't have to stand in line at any given point and get a complete tour of the Vatican museums and the church. First, we had... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
