This church differs from many others. Much work needs to eb done to restore for future generations. Worth a short visit. More

This church, maintained by Irish monks, is on top of the former 2 churches dedicated to St. Clement, which were discovered some years ago during restoration of the present church. It is located between the Coliseum and the Basilica of St. John in the Lateran. Be sure to look for the remains of an ancient fresco containing a "story" of... More

Did a tour with Through Eternity tours, was great to learn all the information about this awesome site, highly recommend their services. The church itself and underground sites are awesome and a great part of Rome, pity there is no photography allowed. More

We wouldn't have gone here unless someone had recommended it in an off-chance discussion but we're really glad we did. For 5 euros (each) you can visit the excavations underneath the present Church - it is like going back in history the further down you go. Very interesting. More

Following this church all the way down to the ancient Temple of Mithras gave us an understanding of the deep history of Rome. Though the church was jammed with school children, they didn't all make it all the way down. Seeing this church, then coming back up to modern Rome, gave me a new perspective on the city and on... this church is built on top of ancient Roman ruins that have been excavated and that you can now tour. The remains are quite interesting, if you like such things, having formerly comprised a pagan temple, several houses, including on that still has a spring supplying water. If you have any interest in the remains of ancient Rome, this sight... More

This was one of many highlights of rome that should not be missed. We arrived at the church a bit before it opened and enjoyed a delicious meal at the restuurant just across from the entrance. This a a quiet gem in an obscure little church. But once inside as you decend underground, one returns to the 1st century AD.... More

This basilica is very different than the others. It has lots of frescos, some newly restored, others you notice the damage the weathering has done. There are fantastic mosaices on the ceiling, altars and many other less obvious places. For more info: http://www.basilicasanclemente.com/. You don't need to go far to visit as it is located between the Coliseum and the... More
