This is a walk through ruins which in summer will be in very hot weather. The area is littered with ruins. Entrance is through the gate in Via San Gregorio or through the Foro romano. Combined ticket is valid for both. We bought the Archaeologica card for 28 euros which entitles you to other various places and we jumped the... more

In March, the only lines were for the WC in the modern museum building. Use your Roma pass for entry here and to the Forum. I recommend seeing the Colosseum, then Palatine, and ending with the Forum. Start early in the morning. Everything on Palatine Hill is a ruin and unfortunately, there are not enough descriptions of what you are... more

We head to the Metro for Circo Maximo stop on Line B, with a switch at Termini from Line A to B. We walk up Via San Gregorio and get online for the Palatine/Roman Forum entrance. We wait about 45 minutes and buy our ticket for the combined entrance to Palatine/Roman Forum and the Colosseum. We enter and start walking... more

We started our Ancient Rome touring day at the Palatine, where we bought our combined Palatine/Forum/Colosseum ticket for 11 €. This was a trick from Rick Steves that worked great, since there was no line at all at the Palatine, and we wanted to see it anyway. We didn't get a map with our ticket, so if self-touring like we... more

Another surprise hit, as I was unclear on what exactly Palentine Hill was until we got up here. These are the remains of the royal families' residences--and you can see why 'Palentine' is the origin of the word 'Palace'. The place must have been immense: vast rooms on multiple levels. Check out the 'rec room' and the room with the... more

Visited Rome from June 24-30, 2005. Your ticket to the Colisseum includes the Palatine Hill (across the street). We found it interesting but we had a private tour guide that explained everything to us. Great view of St. Peter's from here. Also, if you need to use the toilets, use them here, practically no wait unlike at the Colisseum. more

Interesting place - the where the powerful lived including emperors. Unfortunately there are no signs to tell you about what was there, except in the small musuem. A good guidebook would be very beneficial to bring. It's included in the Colosseum admission so take advantage of it. Unfortunately the intact house that is supposed to be impressive was closed when... more

Take an extra hour during your visit to the Forum to visit the Palantine Hill. The entrance fee includes entry to the Coloseum and is good for 24 hours, so be sure to hold on to your ticket. This is a pretty big area with the ruins of ancient palaces so you might want to read up on it and... more
