The church of Santa Maria del Popolo contains notable art. I was a bit disappointed that the Chigi chapel was covered up in restoration when we visited. And the marvelous Caravaggio paintings of St. Peter and St. Paul actually look much better in art books than in situ, where they are not displayed to best advantage (set at the back... more

One of Romes most interesting early Renaissance churches. It was commissioned by Pope Sixus IV della Rovere in 1472 - look for the 6 mounds on top of the church which is this Pope's crest - also to be seen of the entrance gate to the Piazza del Popolo from Via Flaminio. It contains some of Rome's most treasured chapels... more

Rome has lots of gorgeous churches - but this one is above average. It isn't very big but the families that owned the side chapels seemed to spare no expense. Two Carravagios!! Certianly worth a look when your at the Piazza del Popolo. more
