Went to the colosseum not on an organized tour. Guides abound in front of the place and many have official looking credential tags around their necks. They offer a "package deal " of the colosseum and the forum all for a little more than the price of admission to only one of the attractions. Beware!!! The second guide never shows... more

We arrived at the Colosseum 5 minutes before opening and the lines were already rather long. After going through the mandatory security check, we used our Roma Pass to bypass the line which we felt was very convenient. The Colosseum is certainly a landmark of Rome. Entrance costs €12 (inclusive of Foro Romano and Palatine Hill).
