Awesome church, you need to go to experience it. Thats all I can say. From standing outside and thinking how did they get those carvings up onto the roof, to thinking how could so many brilliant artists be in one place. Better than the Vatican

Amazing church with such elaborate decor. Lots of gold, huge statues. Truly a gem. Perhaps even more beautiful than St. Peter's and definitely not as crowded.

This church was very close to our appartment, so we made sure to pay a visit. The church has an incredibly heavy baroque style, somehow managing to seem overdone in a city chock-full of massive (baroque) cathedrals.

My husband and I recently visited this cathedral on our last day in Rome. It is a very beautiful cathedral with a gorgeous ceiling and many interesting paintings. They allow you to visit during the Mass but you must stay away from the central area (it is roped off) if you are not partaking in the mass. Please remain silent... More

This church is one of the first where a new Pope holds mass. The building is really impressive and on a level with St Peters for amazing statuary.

I liked interesting to know that Popes lived in the Lateran Palace, until the Vatican was build. I liked beautiful decorations! Also the façade of the Cathedral is Baroque look.

This was the first of many churches and basilicas that we visited while in Rome. The detail and artwork are beautiful. Make sure that you visit the cloister.

entrance is free and you only pay an audioguide for 6 euros. It's very good! You can also see when priests are doing mass there. At the end in the main altar there is a "throne" were the pope sits. I think only the pope can do mass in the main altar in this church.
