We missed this site in 2004, but decided we had time tour it after seeing the Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel. It is a short walk & the entrance is at the end of Ponte Sant'Angelo, a bridge decorated with angels. It costs 10 E each w/out the audioguide. It is open Tues - Sun 9 am - 7:30 pm.... more

Far, far less crowded than other places, there were only about 20 people in line to get into when we arrived around 4 or 5pm on a Friday. We went in expecting to get our Roma Pass discount (we'd already used up our 2 free sites). Instead, they let us in for free! The castle's architecture is something really special.... more

The Castel Sant'Angelo tends to get over-shadowed by Rome's major attractions (don't need to list those here). Indeed, we were there in late July and there was absolutely no queue to enter. The building itself is a great historical journey and the views of Rome from the upper terrace are absolutely fantastic. The cafe on one of the upper levels... more

Very much well worth the 8€. The view from the top is amazing!! There is even a restaurant in the middle of the castle, but we did not stop there. Close by on the ground is a market place, and I found great pieces of jewelry there (nothing precious, of course). more

If you stay for a few days in Rome, you might want to explore Castel Sant Angelo. The fortress is absolutely amazing. And if you're there on a hot day, very cool! There is a terrasse on the top from which the views are unbelievable! I'm sure you will make great pictures! You can also enjoy the breeze while drinking... more

We visited Castel Sant 'Angelo in the summer and it wasn't as crowded as many of the other sites in Rome. We got the audio guide which gave us a lot of information and was well worth the money. Also the place has great views over the tiber and of the Pont Sant' Angelo. Overall a very good place, there's... more

There is not too much to see in the castle itself but the view you have from the top terrasse that leads 360 degrees around are wonderful and well worth the few Euros! You have a beautiful view of the Vatikan, St. Peters Dome and the bridge leading to the castle and if you want to you can sit in... more

Considering its age, this place is incredible condition. Very good to wander around and peaceful after the crowds in the centre. If you can, take a book with a map of the interior/information with you as you are not given one at the entrance. more

The Castel San Angelo is far less crowded than the other ancient roman sites in the city. It provides a wonderful opportunity to see a well maintained ruin with far fewer people around. Also a handy walk from the Vaticon. Love the views of the river from the top of the castle. more

The outside of the castle is outstanding and does not do the inside justice. The history and the architecture are amazing. Two things not to miss; the views from the top and the secret tunnel below. The tunnel is only open about once a year, so plan ahead. more
