Prior to visiting Rome, I researched the best hop on hop off bus to use for 24 hours to get the lay of the land. Many recommended the Red City Sightseeing vs. Roma Christina or the Green or Blue bus. Ironically, we waited 45 minutes this morning for a City Sightseeing bus while the Roma Christina, Green, and Blue busses... More

Having arrived in Rome as part of a cruise ship excursion we were limited to time in the Eternal City. It was too hot to walk everywhere so jumped on an open top bus to see the sights. The value was good and we were able to get on and off the bus whenever we wanted.

What a joke, this is a disgrace, you get hassled by street vendors to buy a ticket, you go to the bus stop and the guy there has his little attitude and insists that a standing position is a good idea, you then have to wait about 20 minutes to get on board. After driving around for about 45 minutes... More

Having had good experiences in other cities we thought the hop on hop off bus would be great for jet lagged travellers (in-laws were over from NZ). Very disappointed in the service, appreciate it was a busy weekend but over an hour waiting in line both days (even when we thought we were smarter the next day and went back... More

Long queues even if you have pre-paid tickets and you are hassled by annoying hat and selfie stick sellers who don't take no for an answer!!!!. However, it is the best way to get your bearings as Rome is a large city.

Use this company to get your skip the queue tickets for the Vatican museum but no need to buy their Colosseum skip the line pass as it only means that you have to visit the Colosseum at an appointed time. Pieces of music played between commentary lasts longer than the commentary itself which in a city like Rome is baffling.... More

We always look for the red open top bus tours wherever we but this was the worst we've come across. Pushy sales people and massive queues made the whole experience a waste of time and we only hopped off once, as we're were unable to get back on! Walk instead, it's much quicker!

We got the 48 hour tickets. Pleased we did as had to queue a fair bit to get on. Can't imagine what it is like in the height of the season. You get chucked around a fair bit with some drivers and if upstairs you need to duck on some streets cos of branches in the trees. Some branches had... More

The first thing to note that Wednesday is a very busy day in Rome as the Pope has an audience every Wednesday morning and the place is heaving you cannot move easily. Use a sight seeing bus, the hop on hop off ones, they are great value and you get an overview of the city. Be prepared to wait an... More

Unfortunately we've been stuck the big red bus at termini A for over 20 minutes, badly organised. Hopefully it will improve once we actually get moving!

Staying in Trevi

Neighborhood Profile
Trevi
A non-stop photo and souvenir opportunity, Trevi is all about action. From early morning through the wee hours, the piazza surrounding Trevi Fountain hosts a never-ending flow of tourists hoping to make a wish or take a selfie. Clever restaurants, charming gelaterias, uncanny bars, kitsch shops, and a range of hotels make up the local landscape. Beneath the bustle are the remains of an ancient neighborhood that you can visit by heading over to a repertoire cinema and asking for a peek underground. There is something for everyone, but if peace and quiet are what you seek, plan to visit in the early morning hours.
