Description: A tour through the olive groves 45 minutes train journey from Rome...
A tour through the olive groves 45 minutes train journey from Rome involving tastings, a light lunch and wines. During the lunch you can try different oils with different foods. Johnny Madge’s expertise about olive oil is internationally sought-after. He has done tastings on television: most recently for British TV chef Gary Rhodes. The trip can start or end with an olive oil tasting in Johnny's oil/wine bar in the medieval village of Casperia.

We booked this tour about 6 months before our trip to Rome. It was a 'must do' for us. Everything about the description completely appealed to us. It did mean that we landed at 8pm Saturday from Australia and had to find our way across the beautiful rome countryside to meet Johnny the following morning. No worries - thanks to... More

Cannot speak highly enough of this tour. Initially I was wondering if it was worth the cost, but it is because you get wine, food, travel and an education about olive oil and the area all thrown in. Johnny the host is fantastic and friendly, also asking whether he can do anything to make the visit more comfortable. The olive... More

You have limited time in Rome, could this possibly be a good use of your time? Absolutely! I've been on lots of tours and this was one of my all-time favorites. Johnny is a native English language speaker, which makes him much more accessible to kids. Our kids struggled with understanding many of the other tour guides on the trip.... More

Fantastic experience with Johnny Madge! We only had 3 days in Rome and thought we surely had better things to see and do than do this olive oil tour... The reviews kept drawing me back to this experience as well as Mr. Madge's immediate, charming responses. He got creative with our experience and did his tour at an Olive Oil... More

When in Rome, this tour needs to be on your to-do list. After a short train ride out of the city, Johnny Madge picked us up at the station and we started to make our way to Casperia, a beautiful medieval village in the countryside of Lazio. On our way there, we stopped to see the oldest olive tree in... More

My wife and I took the Olive Oil tasting tour during our June trip to Rome. Johnny was exceptional helping us arrange train travel to Casperia for the tour. He picked us up at the station upon arrival and drove us to his village. To say the views and visuals were breathtaking would be an understatement. Johnny was extremely knowledgeable,... More

We were staying north of Rome near Sutri so met up with Johnny in Casperia - a stunningly gorgeous hilltop town in the Province of Rieti. Johnny provided a wonderful authentic Italian lunch (including his mother-in-law's bean recipe) and excellent wines to sample. We tasted the greatest olive oils and learnt a lot about 'good oils' and 'bad oils' and... More

My 13-year old daughter begged me to take her on Johnny's tour during a family vacation to Rome. I knew I would enjoy it too, but wasn't certain that other members of our family (two of whom are under 10-years old) would feel the same. In fact, we ALL had a marvelous time! Johnny was the perfect host and a... More

I have known about Johnny Madges tours for a number of years now but never had the opportunity to go on one until very recently. Johnny's usual tours focus on the oils of the Sabina region (Province of Rieti, a hour's drive northeast of Rome) but the tour I took this time focussed on the oils of Tuscia, the fascinating... My husband and I did an olive oil tasting excursion with Johnny in May, and it was wonderful. This was one of our favorite days in Europe, and is a perfect day trip from Rome. We took a 40 minute train ride from Rome, Johnny picked us up (along with two other couples) and off we went in his VW... More
