Description: A tour through the olive groves 45 minutes train journey from Rome...
A tour through the olive groves 45 minutes train journey from Rome involving tastings, a light lunch and wines. During the lunch you can try different oils with different foods. Johnny Madge’s expertise about olive oil is internationally sought-after. He has done tastings on television: most recently for British TV chef Gary Rhodes. The trip can start or end with an olive oil tasting in Johnny's oil/wine bar in the medieval village of Casperia.

Last October (2014) my husband and I stayed in Rome for 6 days and planned day excursions. None were as wonderful as visiting Casperia and taking Johnny Madge's Olive Oil Tour. The train ride from Rome could not have been easier and Johnny picked us up at the station himself since he only takes a small group at a time.... More

I was in Rome in October and booked an olive oil tour with Johnny Madge. It was an excellent decision. Using email to confirm specifics, Johnny was very clear as to where and when we would meet. He was waiting at the train station and took charge from that moment until almost 8 hours later when he left us back... More

My friend and I did the full tour in October 2014. It was the highlight of our Rome trip and was unlike and other tour that I have been on. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rome. Johnny explains olive oil in depth to include the process of harvesting olives, production of olive oil, how to identify bad... More

We did the 1-hour olive oil tasting and lesson at Johnny's restaurant, since we had not booked in time for the tour, and it was incredible. He is one of the world experts in olive oil, is active in the Slow Food movement, and judges olive oil tastings around the world. Knows his stuff and is a great teacher. Would... More

Johnny Madge is a well-respected expert on olive oil and offers group and personal tours. The train ride to him from Rome-Tiburtina is easy and inexpensive. Johnny will meet you at the station. He is a very personable man with a terrific personality and impeccable English and Italian. Every tour is personalized based on the time of year and what... More

This was so much more than olive oil. We took a train from Rome to Fara Sabina about 45 minutes easy to do and very inexpensive. We were met on the platform by Johnny. He then drove us to the hilltop village of Casperia. Along the way he pointed out historical sites and we got to know each other. He... More

I haven't read all the reviews here, but I can quickly see that the "Johnny Madge" experience is already well-covered and well-loved here. We sought out this tour specifically to learn more about olive oil, but anyone looking for a classic Italian lifestyle experience would treasure a few precious hours with Johnny. It never even felt like a "tour"... more... More

Late August 2013 our extended family of 7 arrived from Australia to Casperia to stay at La Torretta. The owners of La Torretta organised for us to wander down for a private tasting to Johnny's little gecko grotto/wine bar on our second evening. As soon as we met Johnny we felt so welcomed and inspired to learn what he passionately... More

Johnny's tour is a must do for any visitor to Rome. We had a wonderful day visiting the Sabine Hills, learning about Olive oil, eating, drinking....Johnny is a delightful host, we felt like guests, not tourists. His 5 star rating is well earned, and well deserved. The olive oil we brought home is my favorite souvenir and the scent of... More

The wine, the oil, the exquisitely presented edibles, and the beautiful views of quintessentially Italian hilltop villages in the golden afternoon sunshine all blend seamlessly together. Johnny Madge’s Olive Oil Tour is an object lesson in seriously advanced relaxation. As we drifted around the bucolic Sabine hills in a pleasantly alcoholic haze, succumbing to the soporific effects of the gourmet... More
