Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. Context's Rome walking seminars are an alternative to typical guided tours. With over 50 different walks led by Ph.D. or MA-level scholars, and with the smallest group size available—only six people. Context is much more than a walking tour of Rome.

We are independent travellers and dislike being herded around in tour groups; but we know a good tour guide can make a huge difference. My son just finished a course in ancient Roman history this past year in college and was eager to visit what he had studied. Our guide was Simona Bracci, a PhD in archaelogy who breathed life... I can't say enough positive things about context travel and my recent tour of the Vatican. Our docent was terrific. Informative, interactive, it really blew all other similar tours away. It's worth every penny and I'll be using Context as much as possible in my travels.

We just returned from a trip to Rome, Florence, Venice and Paris. We opted for the Mythology Workshop in Rome to start us out, in the hopes that it would provide a manageable way for all of us look at the volumes of art to which we'd be exposing our daughters. Getting a sense of the influence of the gods... More

A fabulous in depth and personalised tour by our docent Liz. With my husband and mother in law both ancient history novices - Liz was engaging and a fountain of information. Couldn't recommend highly enough. My first context tour and will now make sure I book a tour everywhere I venture.

The coliseum is amazing but it would be easy to walk around in the heat and not know what you are looking at. Liz was a great guide very entertaining and extremely good at explaining the history and making the whole place come alive. It's an excellent way to get a feel for Ancient Rome without long queues and lots... More

Just returned from Paris, Florence, Rome and Barcelona on a trip that included our daughter and her family (2 boys, ages 8 and 13), and our husbands. It was the first trip to Europe for all. Decided international travel is easier than domestic! We had docents from Context in each city and would Never, Ever, travel without this agency! They... More

Context Tours was easily the best of the two tours we did in Rome (the other being Dark Rome / City Wonder's Sistine Chapel Express Tour). This is because of the group size (six of us), time spent (four hours), and expertise of the guide. It is this last factor, which I will discuss more below, that made this such... More

We scheduled a tour, Arte Vaticana and Sistine Chapel, while recently in Rome, Italy. The tour guide was prompt, knowledgeable and very willing to "go the extra mile" for our wishes and questions. Tour guide, Simona, could not have done a better tour and her professionalism and experience are to be recognized. She is clearly an expert in this area.

We did the Vatican tour. Our guide (Tatiana from Florence ?) was excellent. Her English was awesome and the amount of knowledge she had was incredible. Not only did we get ahead of the long lines by being part of the group, we got to see and learn so much that we otherwise would not have. She was excellent at... More

As a young family (kids 6, 10 and 11) we wouldn't think to visit a major gallery or museum without a Context docent. This month we have visited: Vatican, Borghese and done the Underground Rome family tours and would recommend all 3. Each is very different and it'd be hard to say any one is best although Borghese is probably... More

Monti
Monti is Rome’s rebel yell. This neighborhood just west of Termini train station mixes grit with fun as it continues to fight for its reputation as a magnet for the artsy, alternative, and hipster. Every season, quirky boutiques and food spots sprout up on its cobblestone streets. The neighborhood supports unique and homegrown businesses that cater to its longtime residents as well as hipsters on the hunt.
