With over 50 different walks led by Ph.D. or MA-level scholars, and with the smallest group size available—only six people. Context is much more than a walking tour of Rome. « less

We went on two Context tours on our recent trip to Rome: The Jewish Ghetto tour and the First Church, Lateran & Early Christianity, both were excellent. Liz, our Jewish Ghetto guide, obviously loved giving tours & even offered to go another hour with us! She is a architect & professor in Rome & knew her Roman history. Eric, our... More

What a totally outstanding four hours! Nina was an absolute gem who made ancient Rome come to life. She is an archeologist who's the lead on a dig, teaches at university and works as a tourguide in the high season – plus she's engaged to Russell Crowe! (Standing joke in her presentation because "Gladiator" is a point of reference in... More

It was our first time going to the Vatican so we decided that if there was going to be one place in which we wanted to have a great guide, it was this. It exceeded our expectations. Our guide was Alessandra Poli and not only you could tell she mastered her field, but she spoke perfect English and she was... More

Excellent, informative, interesting tour and a brilliant guide. A very knowledgeable guide. Dony was the most incredible tour guide we’ve had in all of our Context trips in Europe. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, fun and certainly enjoys doing his job! Really great walk with the most incredible sights of the Colosseum in a private tour, it was almost like being... More

Another terrific Context Rome tour, this time focusing on medieval mosaics in three churches: Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Prassede and Santa Pudenziana, all within a few minutes walk of each other. The docent, Dr. Lauren Golden, was informative and entertaining all at the same time. She explained the changing face of early Christian art and the relating social changes occurring... More

Gregory, a native of R.I. who was getting his Master's degree in theology in Rome was our docent. He was friendly, professional, and offered a wealth of information about the Vatican and the art inside St. Peter's. We learned an awful lot from the tour and recommend it highly!

We signed up for 2 tours because we liked the fact that there is a maximum of 6 people in a group and the guides are specialists in their fields. It is expensive but in our opinion, it is well worth the money and makes the whole experience memorable. Our first tour was the Vatican Tour with our guide, Felix.... More

We signed up for two tours because we liked the use of Docent approach that they have. Its a little more expensive but the groups are much smaller and the guides are much more informative. It started with a sent PDF showing the area, layout, the history, and recommended literature and even nearby recommendations for food. We started on the... More

We did three Context tours (Colosseum, Vatican museum, and general walking of Rome). In all cases, the guide enhanced the experience dramatically with historical perspective, personal observations, and unique insights. Exhibits became alive as they described and compared details of various paintings. Since the largest group was 5 people, we had the opportunity to ask all of our questions and... More

Hilary did an outstanding job on our private tour of the Borghese Gallery. We managed to have some of Bernini's greats to ourselves. She was an excellent teacher but was also a font of fascinating stories about the people behind the art. She has a naturally charismatic presence that the kids enjoyed. Grazie mille!
