Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. Context's Rome walking seminars are an alternative to typical guided tours. With over 50 different walks led by Ph.D. or MA-level scholars, and with the smallest group size available—only six people. Context is much more than a walking tour of Rome.

Wouldn't visit a major European site without Context

As a young family (kids 6, 10 and 11) we wouldn't think to visit a major gallery or museum without a Context docent. This month we have visited: Vatican, Borghese and done the Underground Rome family tours and would recommend all 3. Each is very different and it'd be hard to say any one is best although Borghese is probably... More

Private tour of the Vatican with a scholar. Outstanding. Skipped long lines and got great history and context of the Vatican, it's history and artworks.

This was an absolutely amazing tour! Given the long lines, our ability to "skip the line," was invaluable. But that was only the beginning. Our guide was both passionate and knowledgeable about what we were seeing. The small group size was wonderful. I highly recommend this, and will certainly opt for Context tours in the future. A guide with a... More

This was our second visit to Rome (with a couple who had never been to the Vatican) and as our experience in the past, we were hosted by a wonderfully talented and informed tour guide. The attention to detail was wonderful and the experience (both times) was exceptional. This tour was in the height of the tourist season in Rome... More

My family was certainly apprehensive about touring the Vatican with a 6-year-old. I had gotten a recommendation for Context and decided to look them up. It was one of the best decisions we made during our whole trip to Italy. Alessandra was our docent and she was excellent. Once we met at the cafe near the museums she was on!... More

We did the Coloseum and Forum tour and I can highly recommend it. We only had 5 people in our group and our guide had a PhD in archaeology and architecture. I thought I knew quite a lot about Roman history having studied Latin and Ancient history , but this tour was amazing. I learnt so much and our guide... More

Did 2 tours with Context, both group tours, one had total of 5 people, one had total of 6. Can't say enough about the quality of the tour guides - these aren't simpy docents, they are art history professors, or archeology professors who have a passion for their jobs! Their enthusiasm is contagious and really makes history come alive -... More

We recently went to Rome for the first time. We set up two tours with Context, one of Ancient Rome and one of the Vatican. These were the highlights of our trip. The tour guides were both extremely knowledgeable, personable, and made the tours exciting and fun. I would recommend Context Rome Tours to everyone going.

Our trip to Rome was enhanced immeasurably by the two Context Tours we took. Monday we did the 4 hour Rome Antica tour; Tuesday was the 4 hour Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel/St. Peter's Basilica tour. Both guides were terrifically knowledgable, personable and very skilled at navigating the large crowds and lines. Our tour groups were a total of 6 people which... More

We did the Vatican and St. Peters tour with an excellent guide (Agnes Crawford) who did more than just provide information on the museum and its artifacts. She conveyed it all in a story line that explains the broader context (no pun intended) of the religious and political aspects of the Vatican's history, the reasons and rationale behind the massive...
