With over 50 different walks led by Ph.D. or MA-level scholars, and with the smallest group size available—only six people. Context is much more than a walking tour of Rome. « less

Just got back from the Rome Antica tour. I was hesitant to book the tour because of the price but I really wanted a tour guide with deep historical knowledge about the Ancient Romans. I was very pleased with Livia. I learnt so much during the tour about the Colosseum, Palatine and Forum. There was far more detail than a... More

Since we're in Rome so frequently, we look for tours that go beyond the standard topics and visit places that are not on the beaten path. We were delighted when Context Rome announced a tour that touches on an oft forgotten topic: the events leading to the birth of Italy as we know it today. Not too many people realize... More

We toured the Vatican in January. There were only 5 in our group. The guide had a Ph. D., spoke excellent English, and provided an amazing amount of additional information - much more than on our previous tours. Our guide also did not rush through the Vatican sites to stick to a schedule - she adjusted her presentation to fit... More

This was a private tour so a big investment for us. We hoped it would be worth it and felt that if it inspired our kids to think and care about gallery art in more substantive and complex ways then we'd have made a good decision. However, we were dubious that a 2.5 hour tour would be able to address... More

Saw the glowing reviews here. Agree totally with the reviews. Our tours with Andrew and Livia were very good. Certainly highly recommended for anyone planning a holiday in Rome for the first time.

We booked the Rome Holiday Walk, Tradition of the Nativities as a private tour with Lauren Golden. The tour certainly met, if not exceeded our expectations. I would certainly book Lauren for other tours in Rome as well. It was certainly worth the money spent. We always use Context Travel and will continue to in the future.

My family (2 kids 9 & 11) spent a cold, raining day in Naples and Pompeii with Context and it was easily one of the highlights of our Italian trip! Our guide Fiorella took us to small local markets, small (incredible!) pastry and chocolate shops, proper Naples pizza, and on an informative tour of Pompeii. She had to improvise a... More

Thank you so much for this comment. We are happy to learn that a rainy day did not spoil your time in Naples and that our docent beautifully succeeded in crafting your Neapolitan experience...this means so much to us. We look forward to welcoming you back on a sunny day! More

We recently took 3 different walking seminars (with 3 different docents) with Context Travel in Rome and they were simply outstanding. The logistics, from on-line booking to payment to meeting places in Rome, worked perfectly and easily. On 2 of our 3 walks, we were the only people (despite thinking that the minimum requirement was 3 people). Our walks were... More

We took 2 tours with Context Tours, both with Patrizia, and they were a highlight of our experience in Rome. The guides are not Tour Guides in the usual sense, rather they are experts in their fields. The first trip to Ostia Antica was so informative that the city "came alive" and made sense, both architecturally and historically. The second... More

We took three small group tours in mid-October, and they were uniformly excellent. The tours were Arte Vaticana with Maria Stella Bottai, Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere with Janet Cavallero, and Caesar and Empire with Philip Ditchfield. Our guides each had PhD's in relevant subject areas. Maria was from Rome, but spoke excellent English. Janet is an American ex-pat, and Philip... More
