Avoid Green Line Tours and their green and white buses at all costs! We always enjoy seeing a new city by taking an open top bus tour and decided to do the same when we arrived in Rome. We approached a man on a Segway which was decorated with the Red Sightseeing Open Top Bus Tour for Rome, a company... More

We took their tour to Hadrian's Villa (Villa Adriana) and Villa D'Este. We were picked up at our hotel, but were then left to wait in a very hot bus for over an hour at their office while other passengers arrived. This left insufficient time to to see the villas in any depth, particularly Hadrian's. The guide was awful, talked... More

Last day of family trip celebrating our dad’s 90th birthday was ruined by this horrific company! Worst tour experience ever. Worst service experience ever. Had us sit on bus for over an hour of a 3 hour scheduled tour waiting as they gathered others. Had one guide speaking English and French in fast-speak over gravelly headphones, while we ran through... More

Picked up by shuttle at 7am. Then a 3 hour drive south towards Naples. Pit stop coffee/toilet stop along the way with another 20 coaches. Got to Naples. Drove around in circles and didn't really see a great deal of city, plus a look out stop of Mt Vesuvius but too hazy to see anything. Then the worst part of... More

We took the Rome by Night tour and were very disappointed. The tour guide had good information but we drove by numerous sites that looked interesting and he was silent. One of the 2 stops was at Trevi Fountain despite the fact it is under construction. There is nothing to see there! It is a mess and it is still... More

We had booked two tours with this company prior to leaving our own country. These were to be our vacation highlights. Tivoli and villa D'Este and Pompeii. Our first tour there was a long walk up a road to get to the site. I am sure this would have been fine if one of us did not walk with a... More

Took this tour as a welcome break from all the walking. Unfortunately the driver drove too quickly so photo oppotunities were missed. You were provided with headphones and a map The audio tour was average as you whipping your head round to catch that sight. This company was more expensive than other providers. We spent a long time sitting at... More

We used the hop-on-hop-off service which was great so decided to use Green Line tours again for a dedicated tour of the Vatican museums. After waiting for over 45 minutes to be collected from the hotel we then changed coaches without really being told what was happening (we had to get off and join other passengers) The tour guide was... There are over 7 different hop on hop offs in Rome - we made the wrong choice. The weather is out of everyone's control while traveling, particularly visiting Rome at the beginning of July was our bad, Ill take that one. Under the threat of heat stroke we picked this bus because we were the under the impression they were... More

The buses are an excellent way to get around the city. In July it is so hot, the rest on the bus in between places is well worth the ticket price. Very affordable and the new buses have air con!

Staying in Esquilino

Neighborhood Profile
Esquilino
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighborhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighborhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic center. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
