Description: When In Rome Tours is a collective of like-minded tourism industry...
When In Rome Tours is a collective of like-minded tourism industry professionals, comprising company directors, two business managers, several admins, and dedicated support staff. Our Rome tour guides are fully licensed and have been leading Rome walks for many years in both English and native Spanish. Instead of working for a corporate tours provider on a commission basis, we have worked our way up over the years to become Rome's leading independently established tour operator. There are no middlemen, book a Rome or Vatican walking tour with us and you will tour WITH US. In this way, you get value for money with no extra costs at any stage. Our guides are experts in their chosen field, be they art historians or archaeologists. Our primary aim is to deliver education about Rome and the Vatican in an enjoyable way, so we take great care to ensure that our guides are as personable as they are professional. Small group tours of Rome work well for everyone and they are our focus. If, however, you wish to book a fully private and exclusive tour, we have many private Rome tour options for you to consider. As a fully licensed tour agency in Rome, we have to bear considerable operating costs as anyone working in Italy will tell you, so we are very proud to announce that our prices continue to be as competitive today as they always have been. In order to be fully transparent, tour costs on our website include all tickets and all local taxes - there is never anything else to pay over and above the prices we publish online. One of our many guarantees is "skip the Vatican line". The same also applies to our ancient Rome tours - "skip the Coliseum line". You will always enter venues in Rome before everyone else on a Rome or Vatican tour with When In Rome Tours. Our reputation in Rome is second to none, and we are sent recommendations every day. When In Rome Tours strives to offer the best possible tours of Rome and the Vatican, and we will continue to pursue even higher service standards in future.

We went with this guided tour 25th of July 2015. The guide Giuliano was very proficient. He was passionate and could put history and art etc in the same context. It was really nice to pass all the queues especially when it's hot, +35°C. You wouldn't like to stand in the sun for hours. Which you'll have to do if... More

Traveling with another couple, we were eager to have an in-depth tour of the Vatican. My husband and I had been there before, a few years ago, and had participated in a shorter (3 hr) tour. This time we wanted more. So we booked an "indepth 5-hr tour of the Vatican" with When in Rome Tours...it was one of their... More

We were going to attempt a tour of the Vatican ourselves but I’m glad we opted to go with When in Rome instead! For 46€ (41€ for students) we had not only a knowledgeable guide but also access to the Vatican museum, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica. We took part in one of the English language tours and... More

It was nice to skip the line but the guide didn't give very good information just pointed where to look, the audio guides were always fuzzy and picking up other guides.

I highly recommend! Max picked us up promptly from our cruise at the determined time. He is VERY knowledgeable about Rome. He even took us to one of his local lunch places and we LOVED it! Chiara was our guide through the Vatican and into the Sistine Chapel. I highly recommend her as well. He knowledge is also top notch!

We had a fantastic tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forums with Giuliano. He was a very knowledgeable guide who gave great detail and insight on every monument and building visited. He did very well to keep us all out of the sun on an extremely hot day and was happy to answer any questions. After the tour he gave... More

We had the most enjoyable tour of the Vatican with Chiara today. She's knowledgeable, entertaining, funny and just amazing at her job. I learnt a lot from her and I really appreciate the energy and effort she put into her work - you'd never imagine she does this regularly as she really gave it her all. Very much worth the... More

our tour guide Chiara was amazing. I learnt more from her in 2 hours than all of my history teachers combined throughout my school life. She made the trip interesting and fun for all. I felt lucky for being in her group.

We did a tour of the Vatican Museums with When in Rome tours. Our guide was Chiara, who was a native to Rome and spoke perfect English. She was great! We had three children with us, aged 7-10. She was very engaging for the kids and interesting for the adults. It was a great tour!

If you want to go zipping past the Vatican museum and see the Sistine Chapel, I recommend this tour. Pros: I thought our tour guide, Sabrina was well informed about the art in the Vatican museum (she being an arts major herself), and was open to questions. It was really a divine experience to view the Sistine Chapel. Its a... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
