Description: When In Rome Tours is a collective of like-minded tourism industry...
When In Rome Tours is a collective of like-minded tourism industry professionals, comprising company directors, two business managers, several admins, and dedicated support staff. Our Rome tour guides are fully licensed and have been leading Rome walks for many years in both English and native Spanish. Instead of working for a corporate tours provider on a commission basis, we have worked our way up over the years to become Rome's leading independently established tour operator. There are no middlemen, book a Rome or Vatican walking tour with us and you will tour WITH US. In this way, you get value for money with no extra costs at any stage. Our guides are experts in their chosen field, be they art historians or archaeologists. Our primary aim is to deliver education about Rome and the Vatican in an enjoyable way, so we take great care to ensure that our guides are as personable as they are professional. Small group tours of Rome work well for everyone and they are our focus. If, however, you wish to book a fully private and exclusive tour, we have many private Rome tour options for you to consider. As a fully licensed tour agency in Rome, we have to bear considerable operating costs as anyone working in Italy will tell you, so we are very proud to announce that our prices continue to be as competitive today as they always have been. In order to be fully transparent, tour costs on our website include all tickets and all local taxes - there is never anything else to pay over and above the prices we publish online. One of our many guarantees is "skip the Vatican line". The same also applies to our ancient Rome tours - "skip the Coliseum line". You will always enter venues in Rome before everyone else on a Rome or Vatican tour with When In Rome Tours. Our reputation in Rome is second to none, and we are sent recommendations every day. When In Rome Tours strives to offer the best possible tours of Rome and the Vatican, and we will continue to pursue even higher service standards in future.

We bought a package deal - 2 tours; one of the Vatican museum, the Sistine chapel and St Peter's basilica; and one of the Colosseum and Forum. Both awesome tours! I'm a history major but I don't always know what I'm looking at or the religious context. We had two different tour guides who spoke fluent English and both were... More

My husband and I had 2 great tours and 3 transfers using this company. They were prompt and on time for each. Our Ancient Rome Tour with Sarah was phenomenal. Our guide shared her knowledge of all the sites in wonderful detail. Our Vatican Tour with Luigi was outstanding as well. His depth of knowledge was at a college professor... More

When we arrived at Vatican City we were approached by a lady selling Vatican tours, she was from the 'when in Rome tours'. We weren't sure if the €42 euros we paid would be justified, but I have to say they were. We had access to the Vatican museum which we had a 60 min tour from Chiara, who in... More

My wife and I together with our friend had a great time taking the "Rome in a day Tour" it's a must for first-timers, and what could have made it better, was a very enthusiastic and witty tour-guide. Chiara, never ran out of words to say, she is like the energizer bunny, never getting tired, and very knowledgable and passionate... More

I have just come back from 5 Days in Rome and I had a pre-booked tour for the Vatican with When in Rome Tours. I turned up on the day and they were lovely. We were introduced to our guide Luigi. He was amazing, went out of his way to know all our names (and there were 16 of us)... More

My mum and I were convinced to join the tour on the spot and within fifteen minutes we were delighted with our decision to do so! Chiara, our tour guide, was funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgable. Without her we wouldn't have had a clue what we were looking at, and she answered every question she was asked. She never lost... More

Having booked the Vatican museum tour on the internet using When In Rome all our expectations were met. The address could be a bit difficult to find, but we followed Google and walked straight to the office. Well organised, they had our booking, and sharp 1100 am we were on tour with a guide called Luigi. Wonderful guide. Excellent speaker.... More

Luigi was an Absolutely excellent guide, there was nothing he didn't know about the Vatican. Was with him for around 3 hours and there was never a dull moment. Apart from the excellent knowledge of the Vatican he also put a bit of personality into it, making jokes etc, which made him feel like a friend, he also bothered to... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
