Description: When In Rome Tours is a collective of like-minded tourism industry...
When In Rome Tours is a collective of like-minded tourism industry professionals, comprising company directors, two business managers, several admins, and dedicated support staff. Our Rome tour guides are fully licensed and have been leading Rome walks for many years in both English and native Spanish. Instead of working for a corporate tours provider on a commission basis, we have worked our way up over the years to become Rome's leading independently established tour operator. There are no middlemen, book a Rome or Vatican walking tour with us and you will tour WITH US. In this way, you get value for money with no extra costs at any stage. Our guides are experts in their chosen field, be they art historians or archaeologists. Our primary aim is to deliver education about Rome and the Vatican in an enjoyable way, so we take great care to ensure that our guides are as personable as they are professional. Small group tours of Rome work well for everyone and they are our focus. If, however, you wish to book a fully private and exclusive tour, we have many private Rome tour options for you to consider. As a fully licensed tour agency in Rome, we have to bear considerable operating costs as anyone working in Italy will tell you, so we are very proud to announce that our prices continue to be as competitive today as they always have been. In order to be fully transparent, tour costs on our website include all tickets and all local taxes - there is never anything else to pay over and above the prices we publish online. One of our many guarantees is "skip the Vatican line". The same also applies to our ancient Rome tours - "skip the Coliseum line". You will always enter venues in Rome before everyone else on a Rome or Vatican tour with When In Rome Tours. Our reputation in Rome is second to none, and we are sent recommendations every day. When In Rome Tours strives to offer the best possible tours of Rome and the Vatican, and we will continue to pursue even higher service standards in future.

We had planned nothing of Rome before our trip, we certainly hadn't pre booked anything. When we got to the vatican, the tour guides jumped straight out! Usually I would ignore them and not partake but the woman who got talking to us was very engaging. What she said was that we would be taken on a tour of the... More

My mother and I had purchased skip the line tickets for the Vatican museums. As we walked into the vatican a rep from this tour company stopped us and said our tickets are good for the museums but we will have to be in a long 2 hour que for Saint Peters Basilica. I told her I had skip the... More

Booked Vatican Tour on a friends recommendation. Booking online was easy, and the office was a doddle to find. No hanging around on a street with When in Rome. Our guide was Chiara. She made a point of chatting to everyone assembled before the tour to find out our names and where we came from. She clearly had set herself... More

Booking online with When in Rome was a breeze. Thank goodness we had Chiara to guide us through the crazy crowds at the Vatican Museum. She is a master communicator who knows how to engage a diverse audience (16 tired tourists!) with good humor and witty anecdotes. I kept taking notes so I wouldn’t forget all the historical tidbits she... More

After much research I booked a tour with When in Rome primarily because the price was great for the 2in1 tour. It's hard planning a vacation online and some of the other tours we were recommended were either booked or too expensive. You can stop looking right now and book a tour with When in Rome! I was not disappointed.... More

An excellent tour. Just enough information but very willing to answer any questions. I would not have enjoyred the experience without a guide nor would I have liked one of the large groups but the small number was great Chairra was delightful. Thank you well worth the money!

We had to most wonderful night tour of Rome with Robert. We ended up having a private tour, just my husband, Mike and I. It was fun touring Rome and learning more about the ancient history and seeing the sights. By doing the tour when we did we got to see some of it in the daylight and were there... More

Dis the Testachhio food tour with Gigi, she was excellent and one of the best guides we came across on our honeymoon, very passionate about the food. The items tasted were all good ranging from strong flavoured cured meats to simply heavenly Gelato, with Pizzas and other goodies thrown for the complete italian experience. There was also visit to and... More

My family and friends took the Vatican tour with Chiara of "When In Rome Tours" and her knowledge, passion and charm made it one of the most enriching learning experiences of my life. She never rushed us, and stressed that what we would see we would learn a great deal about. I much prefer this to other tours I have... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighborhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighborhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighborhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
