The travel guides that mentioned Tarquinia didn't give a lot of detail on how to get there for those of us who require certainty. TA had several entries, but most of them either assumed one would have a car or come from the port. If you were coming from Civitavecchia (the port), it would be a piece of cake to... More

For those fascinated by Etruscan history, the tombs and their paintings are definitely worthwhile. Surprisingly well preserved. Worth the visit for the surrounding landscape and tremendous sense of place. More

While on a cruise we had the option to take a ship's tour or a train to Rome. Neither options seemed like good ideas. I did my homework and found that just a 12 minute train ride from the port was this little walled town called Tarquinia. It was easy to walk to the train station buy round trip tickets... More

Tarquinia makes a great easy daytrip from Civitavecchia (the cruise port of Rome). Usually in Italy you must buy your bus tickets at a Tobachi-a cigar store--but for the bus to Tarquinia you buy your tickets (about 3Euros roundtrip) right on the bus. You can also buy your ticket (and get a timetable) at the Tarquinia both inside the pier--relatively... More

We arrived in Civitivecchia aboard a cruise ship for a day visit. The hordes rushed off to Rome. Having been there a few times a few hours in Rome did not appeal. Before the cruise I found a review that suggested Tarquinia as a good alternative. I would like to add my voice to that. It is easy to get... More

We had read some detailed guides regarding taking the local bus from the Rome port of Civitticchia to Tarquinia. A beautiful little town amid fields of wheatand red poppies. And a famed necropolis. It was Sunday and were told the bus runs all day. In the TripAdvisor article that was so detailed we thought "no problem, how hard could it... More

because everything is real and NOT touristic. Tarquina was the capital of Italy before Rom and is still one of the largest towns of this country as to the surface of 250 km square. Everything You expect of a real Italian citiy you will find here. More than 40 churches, immense towers, restaurants, local events, great landscape, check my homepage... More

The towns of both were simple but charming, with historic buildings and ambiance. The main reason to visit both places is to see the Etruscan tombs dating from the 9th to 1st centuries BC/BCE which are located just outside the city. Both have museums which house some of the most important burial finds from each necropolis, with information in both... More

It is on top of a hill. Tarquinia dates to Etruscan times. There are interesting underground tombs with frescoes that date to before common era. The town museum has three floors of Etruscan artifacts, including a masterpiece. (It was on loan). Tarquinia is a small town. I enjoyed it. The Lido is typical Italian beach resort. It has a nice...
