Such an elegant little statue, don't miss this villa when visiting Pompeii. A faun is mythological figure from the Roman times.

I adore the little Faun statue as you enter the vestibulum of Casa del Fauno...and am impressed with the wealth this family must have had because there are two peristylii (roman gardens within the walls of the villa) grand mosaics, and the negozio (store) at the front of the villa is larger than normal and sports a more elegant marble... This villa is in excellent condition (surely some restoration and rebuilding has been undertaken but I don't remember). It was clearly the home of someone wealthy when it was built, with its large rooms, very large beautiful garden, and gorgeous view of that mountain that the inhabitants had no idea was a deadly volcano. (It had not erupted for so... More

Very cute, the faun is a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but hey, that's why we visit these places, to see for ourselves.

Pompeii is lovely and this is one of the sites you should put on your itinerary. Not far from the entrance. The faun is quite small but nevertheless a real beauty. You need to remember that it represents... the culture, the religion, the city destroyed. And it survived to today. Great piece.

It is one or the largest home in Pompei, with a 3 000 m2 total area. The Dancing Faun and the Alexander mosaic have be recreated for the visitors. There are a few other beautiful mosaic. Most of the original artwork is now found in the Museo Archeologico Museo of Napoli.

There is something about the House of the Faun that I just loved. I don't know if it's that this Faun is still standing after the chaos of the eruption or that you can see the contrast of upper class living from that era. Either way, it's beautiful and mind blowing. Fascinating to imagine what life was like for them... More

Another good example of how the upper class of Pompeii lived before the disaster, being one of the lager dwellings on the site

The faun welcomed you in the centre of the reception lobby. Exquisite sculpture work which defines the word balance. This is only a replica of course, the original statue stored away safely somewhere, but you'd never guess. The villa itself is enormous. I believe it's the biggest one unearthed to date.
