Gaetano's tour of Pompei came at the end of a two week whirlwind tour of Italy. We arrived at Pompei a bit tired of traveling and of tours but that all changed the minute Gaetano opened his mouth. He grabbed us immediately with his enthusiasm and his deep knowledge of history and Pompei. We were hooked! By the end of... More

A previous reviewer wrote "he makes connections with the world of yesterday and today, associations that go well beyond Pompeii, but give enormous meaning to your visit" and I couldn't agree more. Gaetano's passion for Pompeii and his extensive knowledge are evident from the moment you set out on your tour. He makes an ancient city come to life and... More

We undertook a packaged day trip that Gaetano offered. A private car picked us up in Rome and drove us to meet Gaetano in Pompeii. Where upon we met Gaetano followed him through the streets of Pompeii on a personal tour, sharing his decades of Pompeii knowledge, and getting us through the hordes of other tourists efficiently. Then our car... More

Gaetano's tour takes guiding to a level which very few guides have the intelligence, education and humour to reach: he makes connections with the world of yesterday and today, associations that go well beyond Pompeii, but give enormous meaning to your visit. He does a brilliant job of making the stones speak, but much more than that: he lets you... More

Gaetano was phenominal. This was our second time touring with Gaetano, and he was even better than the first time. We had a mixed group, my wife and I are in our 30's, as were two others in the group. My 10 year old son, and my in-laws were with us as well. Gaetano not only kept the whole group... More

Pompeii was a dream destination for my family, and we sought out and found the best way to visit it. 2 months before the trip I contacted Gaetano, and although a day trip from Rome to Pompeii and Positano is a bit on the pricey side, I decided it would be a welcome reprieve from the constant hustle and bustle... I will begin with our driver, Daniel, who picked us up at our hotel and explained the plan for the day. He kindly let me ride up front because of my tendency to get car sick. He was forthcoming about the fact that there might be traffic going to Positano and other coastal places--so we were warned. He was knowledgeable... More

About 30 days before our trip, my daughter asked if we could go to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. So I began researching tour companies. I had viewed and emailed several companies, but none of them seemed to have a personal touch. Then I emailed Gaetano. He promptly returned my email with suggestions for our tour and prices. He also... More

We visited Rome in mid-July with our 2 kids and mother-in-law. My husband and I have been to Pompeii previously and made the dreadful mistake of doing the tour without a guide. When my 12-year old insisted that we visit Pompeii, we wanted to make it special. I consulted my trusty Rick Steves book and noticed that Gaetano was recommended.... More

There were 6 of us ranging in age from 71 to 12 - from the moment Gaetano started the tour he had everyone's attention. The grandchildren (ages 12, 14 and 16) rated this tour as their favorite. They retained everything Gaetano told them about Pompeii. The adults also found his style captivating - he brought us back in time and... More
