Without a guide the underground tour is interesting, but you will not get all the information. Also take the time to visit the huge museum - I´ve started at the 4th floor and walked down - very interesting

I enjoyed going underground in Naples to explore what it might have been like long ago. The 11 euro entry fee is on a par with other entry fees in the area. We wandered around on our own and were glad to find boards with an explanation about each area written in English. Unfortunately this didn't carry through to the... More

A must when visiting Naples. Beneath this beautiful church is an extensive layout of Roman streets, complete with shops and houses. Really impressive and so incredible to know a little of what lies just a few feet beneath the modern streets of Naples.

I thought this was fairly expensive, the price also includes a museum but there isn't much in it and if you were short on time then you might want to give the museum a miss and go and enjoy another bit of Naples instead like the nativity scenes sold in the street just outside. The ruins are interesting and impressive... More

I agree with the last reviewer, the underground excavations are expensive to visit (not covered by the Arte Card) and poorly explained. Tours are only offered in Italian and you are given a pamphlet that you have to return st the end of the visit. The church next door, by contrast, is free and very beautiful.

My guide book didn't say much about San Lorenzo Maggiore, which was a massive omission on the compilers' part. However, the posters adverstising a Roman street and excavations was guaranteed to attract my attention. It was well worth the admission fee, which covered the underground street and market, the Friars refectory and the museum. There is no admission fee for... More

We booked this small group tour through City Discovery and were extremely pleased. There are several underground places to visit in Naples and this one is under the San Lorenzo Maggiore church where you will find the ruins of a Roman marketplace and older Greek baths. We were the only two on the tour and our tour guide held a... More

Having read the description in my travel guide it hadn't made it onto my list of places to visit. However, I decided to pop in since it's one of the few attractions I actually managed to easily find. I'm pleased I did. For the €9 admission price you get to visit the underground excavations and the museum. Both were an... More

The church itself is nice to see. Lighter than most churches, on a large footprint with frescoes and minor art. There are some very pretty sculptures, and the ceiling of the friars refectory is stunning. Back in the 1400's, this hall was once the seat of the Napolitan government, so you can imagine how beautiful it is. While the church... More

A fully excavated Roman Marketplace and road as well as further down remains of Greek baths was a surprise. A self guided tour and few people about on a Saturday afternoon made this a very welcome stop off en route to Via dei Tribunali.
