Around the origin of our Catacombs much has been discussed, they were simpleburial and never were quarries or underground ways; the first note of the monumentis repeated since the death of St. Agrippino our bishop in the II century, when hisbody was buried there in a noble tomb. Many miracles the saint operated by thetomb, so it became a place of reverence and neapolitan wished to be buried in thatplace.

Naples is definitely a very special place to visit. Especially if you consider the different "types" of tourist attractions you can find here. Several cities in Italy and other countries offer visits to theyr "underworld", but here in Naples this tradition has a particular feeling and leaves the tourist quite impressed. Make sure your guide speaks decent English to make... More

Very interesting experience with a passionate guide. You feel like you're being part of the earth, and that's cool. I would certainly recommend it to everyone.

When we first entered, the place was dark and lit sparingly but this added to the effect. The guide was well scripted on the history of the place and spoke a few languages (Italian, English and French to name a few). The tour didn't last very long and went through the Church which looked more like a community center. This... More

Incredibly interesting, only wish I would have had time to see all the sites run by this group. Excellent tour by very well informed tour guide. The young men running the catacombe started as 4-5 volunteers. They now have 70 salaried employees and are working in multiple churches and are starting to expand to another district in Naples. They believe... More

The Catacombe di San Gennaro are the biggest in Southern Italy and the ONLY one that has a baptism pool inside. It was opened 6 years ago by a small group of volunteers trying to bring money to the poor area of Napoli. Now they are making incredible revenue and have opened a university for artists, musicians and actors. Not... More

We found this place in the open top bus tour, we got 20% off the admission price with bus ticket. We where shown down to the cave like catacomb and talked through it by our guide. She was very knowledgable and passionate about her job. There are lots of dates and information thrown at you and I just picked out... More

She was very informative, explaining the reuse of pagan icons converted to Christian symbolism, as well as telling the story of the best preserved fresco and the travels of the Saint's body. If catacombs with skeletons don't appeal to you, this was has none, all removed, only frescoes. Also, it's a great break from the summer heat, but it's a lot... More

Fascinating history and wouldn't have missed it but just a shame that our guide seemed to spend much longer talking in Italian.

This underground catacomb system is large and fascinating. The guide we had spoke perfect English and was extremely knowledgeable. Although it's a bit outside the city, I would recommend it to anyone with a car.
