I never imagined catacombs could be so interesting! Multiple churches had been established within the catacombs over the centuries, and it was interesting to hear about the changes in the space over time. The spaces were large and the walking fairly easy, though steps are required. Our guide was part of a neighborhood youth group dedicated to preserving the catacombs... More

Looking for a nice cool place to visit on a hot day we decided to make a trip to the San Gennaro Catacombs. Instead of taking the bus we decided to walk there from our apartment near the Duomo. All in all it took us about 45 mins of gentle walking. The catacombs were a very pleasant surprise and definitely... More

The Catacombes are dark and cold even on a hot day. The guides are helpful, but you have to wait around for ages for the tour to begin in a fairly dire waiting area

We were in Naples for a day and we made the journey up to the San Gennaro Catacombs. It is a bit out of the centre of the city so you will need to get a bus. We Found the Catacombs very fascinating and are still in extremely great condition considering how long they have been there. The guide was... More

The Catacombs are one of the attractions that you can't miss when you visit Naples! Located very close to the historical center, they are a journey in the past among fascinating frescos and mosaics. Totally different from what you imagine when you think of catacombs - they represent ample underground spaces in two levels. (so don't worry to be claustrophobic... More

The catacombs were my favourite experience in all of Naples and that is my highest praise as both my girlfriend and I fell in love with this city during our stay here. The fist thing I will say is how to find these on foot as being Naples the signage is terrible... The walk takes about 25-30 mins from the... More

This is a huge site, on two levels, and they are still discovering more. The lowest level containing San Genarro's burial site was only discovered by accident, by an electrician putting in lighting on the upper level in modern times, and they discovered this second level which was the original Christain burial site, built over on the second level and...
