It was free to get in but there really wasn't anything worth looking at. Reasonable view across the harbour and several angry Herring Gulls, but apart from that and the canons that actually pointed toward the mainland(?!) no entertainment value to speak of. As is common in may parts of Italy the toilets were filthy, no seat, no paper, no... More

One of three castles in Naples, and the only one on the sea. Dates back to the 12th century, although current structure comes from Aragonese reign in 15th century. Simple in structure and appearance, with rectangular plan, it is built on the former island of Megaride, that was made into peninsula by 100m causeway. Still very popular for its photogenic... More

We visited the Castle of the Egg on our first day in Italy and we were most impressed. At first it doesnt look like you can go in, but head straight into the archway at the end of the walk way up to the castle and turn left and your all of a sudden walking along the wall to the... More

This castle was right opposite our hotel so easy walking distance! Entrance was free and its a gradual walk to the top where you are rewarded with views out into the sea and looking back into Naples. Not too crowded and go back at night to see it lit up!

The castle's location is perfect. It is located on an island now connected with the mainland. It's in the centre of the Bay of Naples. It's imposing architecture is worth the visit. Plus, the view of Naples is another benefit! You can visit the museum if you want. But the access to the roof is free of charge.

Lovely view of the Vesuvio vulcano, worth to take a short walk. It's about 15 minutes from center of the town :)

Quote: "The castle's name comes from a legend about the Roman poet , who had a reputation in medieval times as a great sorcerer. In the legend, Virgil put a magical egg into the foundations to support the fortifications. Had this egg been broken, the castle would have been destroyed and a series of disastrous events would have involved the... More

As the title states, very impressed with the exterior and the obvious geographic advantages and restoration on the castle. However once you enter there seems to be a lot of newer buildings added to the interior "I assume for retail purposes as it was november and they were shut" there is one area where you can peer through glass to...
