If you are in Naples, sooner or later you will pass through the Centro Storico. It's a big open space surrounded by old buildings. This is Europe . . . what do you expect! There is a wonderful -- very quaint -- ice cream shoppe just off the square. It's well worth a stop. The ice cream is made there,... More

This part of the town is truely the heart of the city for me. It is chaotic, dirty, narrow, wild and picturesque. The shops are usually just a tiny room and the appartments at floor level often have the doors open which gives you a straight view of the living room/kitchen. People know each other and chat, they walk around... More

The center is a huge expanse of architecture and history. The pope visits here regularly so it is designed for the masses. The palace is right across the plaza with the statues of kings lining the building. The story the locals tell describing why each king is positioned a certain way is hilarious and I wish I'd written it down.... More

The big piazza is the public focus for the new year with bands and stalls and loads of people. its very jolly. You can then wander down to the seafront (a couple of munutes away for the fireworks. These are tremendous because you don't just get the public display but every hotel has its own and you get very impressive displays... More

An impressive square, unfortunately the palace is under refurb at the moment so you don't get the whole view. Open space in naples but sadly, used as a dog walking area, and not all owners pick up the mess! Again, a few selfie stick etc sellers but just say no and they take the hint. Worth a visit.

Covering a huge, metropolitan zone full of wonders, charm, history and mistery, the Centro Storico is surely a must-see area of Naples, one of the most typical and useful to understand the character and the myths concerning the city. Full of incredible and magnificent palaces, buildings and a predominant, religious part including the most famous and monumental churches and cathedrals,... More

I so recommend taking a private tour and having a guide show you the wonders of Naples and it's history. It really opened my eyes to this amazing city!
