Wonderful contemporary sculpture collection displayed in caves

Our visit to MUSMA was a highlight of our trip to Matera. Especially the curation and display in the 7 caves under the villa. A must see.

Sweet museum, cool to see sculptures in such a unique location. However, there is not enough information for English speakers. To be honest, we weren't really sure what we were looking at!

Cool and beautiful setting in caves, very atmospheric. An attractive way to view sculptures in a natural background.

It seemed very interesting looking at the pictures. In reality- nothing attractive! Definitely not worth 10 Euro spent on the ticket.

This museum built into the Sassi Rock was formerly a underground home many centuries ago. To experience a cave dwelling and modern art sculptures in this setting is stunning and beautiful. It's an experience you will never forget, even if you're not an art fan. Be warned it's rock so there are no flat pathways.

The contrast between the modern art and the cave setting is fabulous. AND a perfect place to spend a hot day in the Sassi. And you get to ride an elevator inside a cave... not an every day experience. Well worth it even if you're not generally an abstract art or sculpture fiend.

Superbly displayed modern art in a fascinating 'building' (actually not built, but carved from the rock, mostly - and quite extensive. A very modest entry fee.

Although still relatively cheap, this was the most expensive entry price we paid in Matera for anything. The buildings are stunning, the original wall decoration where it remains is worth a visit in itself. In fact it is arguably the most worthy thing displayed here. There are some good quality sculptures on the upper floor. However, there is also a... More

I like modern art but it can be very personal. But this place is worth a visit just to see the displays in the caves - iand then experience the old palace rooms.
