I love mercados, and this has it all. I was able to stock my flat with produce, got incredible bottles of Ribera Duero for about 6 euros, as well as my favorite, Vichy Catalán. Beautiful building.

The choice of fruit, vegetables, meat, cheeses etc is amazing and all set out under a magnificent glass, steel and tiled roof. Worth a peek if only for the architecture. Wonderful.
The plaza itself is full of outdoor market stalls and has a couple of beautiful old buildings to visit but the main attraction is the Mercado Central. Centre of any trip to Valencia. If only Tesco was like this on a Saturday mornng I would never be short of meal ideas!
This seems to be very much a focal point for tourists even for the spanish children on school trips. The fountain is fantastic and the architecture is simply outstanding
When you do your own cooking go there. We went almost every day during our 10 day stay, and discovered every day something new.
It was really clean.
There were many kinds of shops, not only of food, but algo of cooking accesories, creams and more sutff. It was beautiful, and everybody was really nice. We bought for the trip lots of fruit, and drinks. It wasn´t expensive. They close on sundays
Estaba muy limpio
Había muchos tipos de tiendas, no solo de comida....

Try your spanish - the stallholders really appreciate it (if they are not too busy) and take time to explain their products
When you enter this huge huge market you don't know where to look first. Here you can buy everything you can ever dreamed on thinking of food: fish in all kinds, meat, jamon, vegetables etc. etc. I could have stayed there for hours but Valencia had so much more to offer!
