This is a small basilica at Plaza de la Virgen, and is extremely popular with locals. Many reviewers were spot on that this basilica appears to be (religiously) more significant than the actual Cathedral, mainly because of the "Virgin of the Forsaken", a Catholic apparition of Virgin Mary. The basilica's dome is very pretty, but because there were many people... More

Attended a mass here with the children chorus. Great acoustic. The archeological site opposite the church is a must.

Located right on the Plaza de le Virgin, near the Turia fountain, this petite, amazing gem is so unimpressive on the exterior. But after overhearing a guide explaining that this church means a great deal to the local people, and is more popular with them than the cathedral we were searching for (right next door!), we popped inside for a... Incredibly beautiful altar that is worth seeing. And, in fact, even if the Basilica is closed for the day, which it happened to be when we got there on a Sunday afternoon (it closes at 3pm on Sunday), you can walk between the Basilica de la Virgen de los Desamparados and Basilica of San Vicente Ferrer, and look in the... An absolute beautiful building inside & out. The painted ceiling & altar was breathtaking. Nothing to dislike.

Located, fittingly, at the Plaza de la Virgen, this is one of the major churches In Valencia. As the term los Desamparados is a bit beyond my Spanish ability I popped into the shop and asked the lovely person working there the significance of the name. She explained, as best I could understand, that los desamparados are the lost and... More

The native Valencianos treasure the image of the Virgin of the Helpless and the church is always full of people praying. They believe that this Virgin can help them with their problems. I think that all tourists should at least see the church.
