Located right on the Plaza de le Virgin, near the Turia fountain, this petite, amazing gem is so unimpressive on the exterior. But after overhearing a guide explaining that this church means a great deal to the local people, and is more popular with them than the cathedral we were searching for (right next door!), we popped inside for a... Its not what you expect. Its amazing inside. Everything is amazing, the altar, the dome and the walls. This you need to see its amazing. It was so full that I cold not get a full dome shoot so attaching the best I could do. Go there and walk around on the outside.

Incredibly beautiful altar that is worth seeing. And, in fact, even if the Basilica is closed for the day, which it happened to be when we got there on a Sunday afternoon (it closes at 3pm on Sunday), you can walk between the Basilica de la Virgen de los Desamparados and Basilica of San Vicente Ferrer, and look in the... An absolute beautiful building inside & out. The painted ceiling & altar was breathtaking. Nothing to dislike.

Located, fittingly, at the Plaza de la Virgen, this is one of the major churches In Valencia. As the term los Desamparados is a bit beyond my Spanish ability I popped into the shop and asked the lovely person working there the significance of the name. She explained, as best I could understand, that los desamparados are the lost and... More

The native Valencianos treasure the image of the Virgin of the Helpless and the church is always full of people praying. They believe that this Virgin can help them with their problems. I think that all tourists should at least see the church.

Beautiful basilica, easily combined in a visit with the cathedral. Small but with a beautiful serenity.

Free entry and a magical place. The architecture was unbelievable. Very busy in the evening as it is in the square which also houses the cathedral and many bars and restaurants and a great meeting place for families to get together to be seen. Wonderful fountain outside with a story to tell. Please ask to relate the story

The church is really lovely and contains a nationally revered statue of the Virgin Mary for special intervention. The statue is VERY extravagant and moving. This is the official Church of Valencia. The interior is beautiful. Definitely worth a visit!

This is a very nice Basilica. Though the entry fee is free, I guess most people would pay a small amount to walk into this magnificent building. The outside is not very impressive, but the inside is absolutly stunning! The building is richly decorated with gold and paintings and the ceiling is absolutly gorgeous.
