The Casco Antiguo is the area around the Cathedral and the Basilica of the Virgin of the Helpless, as well as the Plaza de la Virgen, where one can see the very beautiful fountain. This area can be walked by visitors and one can find many restaurants where one can eat and be refreshed. There are also many tourist stores.

I guess you have to know where you are going but if, like us, you just wander into the barrio looking for the atmosphere, its a little like walking through a pedestrianized suburb of east London. Not recommended unless you are a fan of graffiti!

You can go to the top of the old gate where bows and arrows were shot. You can also shop or stop and get an espresso or coffee. Tge views are amazing!

You can only really know Valencia after you have wandered round the Carmen district looking at all the great independent shops and stopped off for tapas, ice cream, horchata or (lunchtime only!) paella. There is also some fantastic architecture here and history around every corner. The downside for some is that graffiti is common. However, there is some artistic and... More

I love the old part of town, with all the restored old buildings, very clean and lots of tapas bars to meander around.

Worth getting lost in. A maze of little streets, curious shops, pedestrian squares. Most has avoided over-gentrification. Good for walking or biking. Relatively small so can be nicely explored in an afternoon.

El Carmen is one of the biggest old town districts in Europe, and it makes it a great place to visit - the number of quiet streets, old churches, charming squares, good restaurants and museums makes El Casco Antiguo a perfect place to visit if you want to see the real Mediterranean city atmosphere.

Valencia centre is pleasant and lively although not as pretty as Sevillia or Palma de Mallorca there are lovely spots.

Undoubtedly one of the reasons to go to Valencia to visit this famous district, a wonderful place, walking the streets of Old Town exudes the essence and history of this incredible city. Beautiful churches, old buildings, squares, historical monuments, in short, it is poetry for the eyes.

Get a real feel for Valencia by walking these old city streets. Very safe, very interesting. Many of them pedestrianized. Many of them still being driven down (how?) by todays modern cars. Each alleyway, will in a very short amount of time emerge onto a plaza where you can rest, take a coffee and watch the world go by. Look... More
