We were a group of 3 looking to maximize our time in Madrid with a city tour andexcursion to Toledo. Our first guide was Teresa who was just perfect for the city tour and Prado museum given her knowledge of art history. Gemma then took us to Toledo where we were enlightened by her knowledge of this area. The driver... More

This tailor made cultural tour of Madrid and Toledo was beyond my expectations. Our knowledgable guides were personable, professional and passionate about their subjects. It was truly a memorable experience and gave me an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Spain in a multi-dimensional way. I wouldn't hesitate to encourage my very best friends to use this... More

Teenagers are a tough read. But, when you get a 15 year old and twin 13-year-olds engaged in... fine art (!), palaces (!), history (!) and no WiFi... That is the magic of Spain Cool and Cultural. The owner, Jemma, is brillant. Her hand-picked guides reflect her dedication to a quality experience for clients. We had three days with Spain... More

Gemma was our guide for a full day excursion in and around Madrid and Toledo. We were there with our two young adult children. It was a wonderful day. She was friendly, knowledgable and very accommodating and flexible. She hired a very professional driver for the day and really made the whole experience easy. Doing an overview tour of Madrid... Gemma was marvelous. We are lovers of art and art history and could not have had a better guide. Over two days Gemma guided us through the Prado, the Reina Sofia, the Sorolla, the Galdiano, and an incredible private artist's workshop. This has definitely been a highlight of our trip to Madrid. Thank you!!

This was a fantastic experience from start to finish! Experiencing the market was a great way to begin the day. The bulk of the day was at Chef Esteban's home with very hands-on cooking. Chef Esteban was very knowledgable and made it an amazing experience. Would do this again in a heartbeat!

Everything good you have read about Gemma and her tour company is 100% true! Gemma met us at our hotel an hour after we arrived in Madrid and we began our amazing tour. It was really nice not to be wandering through the city, lost, searching through our guidebook. We saw so many things we never would have found on... More

I recommend Gemma Garcia's Tour company wholeheartedly. Gemma Garcia is wonderful to work with and will tailor your tour to your personal preferences. We did tours of Madrid and Toledo on back-to-back days and all the arrangements were excellent. Gemma and her staff are excellent and very knowledgeable. A wonderful experience! Don & Barb Stoebe

We were in Madrid in early November and had a fantastic experience with Madrid Cool & Culture. Gemma and Teresa were wonderful hosts who spent hours with us showing us the sights and sounds of the City. They also gave us tremendous recommendations for local restaurants. Best of all, they tolerated (and even complimented) my Spanish poetry! All in all... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighborhood Profile
Huertas
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighborhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighborhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
