City of Fountains - Madrid

Another of the beautiful fountains in the city. The city is second only to Rome in the number of fountains.

Take a photo and move on. It is the symbol of Madrid. You can take it from in front of the bus stop, but make sure that you are not blocking any vehicles.

This is an excellent and beautifully crafted fountain consisting of the goddess of fertility, Cibeles, being carried along on a lion drawn chariot, and it is a hugely busy and popular location being Plaza Cibeles. The issue I had with it is the inaccessibility of this wonderful structure. We visited the square during early afternoon and couldn't get anywhere near... More

Definetely the most beautiful and characteristic fountain in Madrid! Set in the middle of Plaza Cibeles, worth visited both day and night! Amazing buildings around it, lots of traffice, many buses pass by this plaza, the airport bus stops also there. You can reach it by red metro line , metro stop ''Banco de Espana''. Metropolis building is also closeby.

This is where the Spanish celebrate their football wins, it has a beautiful fountain that is lit in the evening. There is a magnificent, large statue of the Greek Godess of fertility, Cybele, in a lion drawn chariot and each of the four corners of this Square, which is actually a huge roundabout, has a significant building, including the 'Bank... This fountain is the centre point of a major roadway roundabout. While very busy, combined with the buildings surrounding the fountain it is outstanding.

The Cybele Fountain sits in the middle of the extremely busy road junction where the Calle Acala crosses the Paseos at a roundabout. The figure on a chariot is surrounded by fountains. It has an equally glamourous backdrop of buildings, the Bank of Spain to the west and the Palace of Communicaciones to the east. NB You cannot stand on... More

This monument is usually appreciated from a tour bus or moving vehicle. The fountain is impressive and so is the size. A must see in Madrid. Take pictures when you go.

You can get a good view of the fountain from the bus stop. Traffic clears every 3 minutes or so as the lights in all directions turn red to allow people to cross. If there are police on duty they blow their whistles to encourage the pedestrians to start moving when the lights are in their favour. Traffic seems to... More
