Myself and three friends heard about this free walking your through our hostel. It's definitely worth the time. I learned so much more than walking around myself. Silvia was our guide and she totally had the personality for being a guide. She was fun, exciting, and knowledgable. We even joined her for the pub crawl that night and we had... More

We did the free walking tour and the pub crawl from MADRIDE Tours. Our guide was Silvia. In about 2 1/2 hours we saw the main sights in Madrid and got interesting information about these. Silvia did a great job and she was very funny. She was well informed and could answer all our questions. It was also a good... More

Can't recommend these guys enough. Went on both the walking tour, a perfect combination of history and modern sights. Our guide Stephane made Madrid feel more alive and memorable than most other tours and sights other cities have. Ended up joining their pub crawl for one of the most fun nights I ever had as a solo traveller!

A quite simply brilliant tour of the main features of the city. Our tour guide stephane mixed it up with his incredible knowledge of the history of madrid with some funny stories. Also a great way to meet fellow travellers. A must do when in madrid.

Lovely way to get to know Madrid. Our guide Anastasia was excellent and minded us very well. She know a lot about the history and culture of Madrid. Only drawback was the freezing weather which can't be helped!

Which is a rare occurance!! Plus Stephane... What a babe (he totally didn't put me up to say that). Any-who!, stop wasting time reading this mediocrely... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
