I was alone in Madrid and met one of the tour guides in my hostel and due to our joint love for South East London (SE14 stand up) I thought I'd go on my first walking tour.  I met some cool people that I ended up eating tapas and drinking beers with after the tour.  Our tour guide Silvia was... Sarah was an amazing tour guide. She made it fun with trivia all the way through and had cute anecdotes about the history of madrid. Very knowledgable about the city, and the world. Would highly reccomend this tour with Sarah especially!

we went on the walking tour with Anastasia, and she was so friendly and informative. We loved the tour with her, and would recommend touring with them if you're in Madrid!

Anastasia was informative, engaging and the 3-hour walking tour through Madrid was over before we knew it. We highly recommend this great way of learning about beautiful Madrid. This tour was a perfect beginning for me in Madrid. Anastasia was a super guide, who knows all the interesting stories about the city and she knows how to tell them and how to get the group involved. Interesting from start till end. After the tour we had the option to join lunch in a restaurant, which is great if... More

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
