This tour started in Madrid. Tour guide Joseph was a laugh and gave his best. Pity he didn't stay with us. We changed buses and tour guides at Trujillo for the Portugal leg. So smaller bus but could handle that but from then very poor tour direction from tour guide. Could handle Spanish and English commentary but for next 5... More

We took the trip to Avila and Segovia on 20th July 2015, booked with Julia Travel Daytours through the Madrid Visitor Centre. It turned out to be a ‘curate’s egg’ in that, though most of it was excellent, some of it was quite inedible. Let us say at the start that Julia Travels were excellent and the guide superb. Our... Visiting Spain for the first time, we used the Julia Tours Madrid Day tour with Royal Palace. Guides were knowledgeable and communicated well. This was a great way to start.

Maria our guide was wonderful! Three hour walk of history, good places to eat and shop and her life in Madrid as a mum and guide!

We took the day tour from Madrid to Avila and then Segovia. It takes about an hour to get to Avila, where Nuria - our guide- led us through a smallish village that seems untouched by the excess of the modern world. The churches, including the oldest Gothic church in Spain, are incredilbe as are the stories of Saint Teresa.... More

I was worried because I booked the trip and then saw the reviews. I was expecting to be disappointed; however, the tour was beyond excellent. Carmen, our tour guide, was exceptional. Her knowledge of Spain's history made the tour so enjoyable and enlightening. Her English to Spanish flowed so easily. My 10 year old daughter and I really enjoyed this... More

This was the worst tour we have ever done. The tour guide felt like someone was forcing her to do the job. Did you care or did not want too. Everything was mechanical and boring. We did the free tour from plaZa major and it beat this hands down. Don't waste your time or money.

Pretty average tour guide, felt a bit patronizing and only there for the job. The destinations were beautiful but all felt rushed. A large group, which can be quite painful. Don't get the lunch with tour, there are plenty of places to choose from, but all very touristy.

Staying in Arguelles

Neighborhood Profile
Arguelles
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
