We had a wonderful time walking from place to place. Our guide was a wealth of knowledge, and the food was delicious and plentiful. After having joined several food tours over the years, we both agreed that this was one of the best! Highly recommended.

This was an excellent tour with James our guide. We had a great evening and it set us up for our next few nights in Madrid with more knowledge about how to enjoy the Madrid bar scene. I highly recommend this tour.

On our first day in Madrid James (our guide) and small group of other travelers went were no tourists would know to go. James guided us to a variety of great local establishments with excellent food, drink and stories

Be prepared to walk but have a great time doing it. With a splash of colorful and mostly accurate (no promises guaranteed) facts about this historic city, the tour was amazing. Soak up some of the coulture and plenty of vino y cervecas with some amazing tapas dishes you would probably have no idea to order. James did an amazing... More

Not to be missed experience in Madrid. We had a ball and met some wonderful new friends. James ran the whole tour really well. We learnt so much about not only tapas but life in Spain. The food was fabulous and James made us try things and be more adventurous than I would ever have been on my own. I... More

Everyone must put this on their bucket list when visiting Madrid. Such a great way to explore the city by foot (with a guide who provides as much information as you demand)! The food and drinks we had were all outstanding! A true tapas experience with great people. My advice - eat and drink exactly what they recommend. You won't... More

What a fun evening we had with James, getting to experience tapas the way the locals do. Adventurous Appeities it certainly was too - we got to try food we would normally not have eaten, and all of it was delicious! Definitely not to be missed

This was a surprise for my girlfriend and boy was she happy! They take you to a couple of non-touristy tapas bars and expose your palate to so many delicious tapas and wine/beer/cider from different parts of Spain, you'll never regret it. This was for sure a highlight of our trip.

Staying in Centro

Neighborhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
