I found the whole experience of Gibraltar's Main Street to be very surreal - it was almost like walking through Kingston. It's nothing special and hardly worth making the effort to visit Gibraltar for.

I visited Gibraltar a while ago, I have found it very hard to find anything nice to say about it. Driving off the island was the best part. I didn't like it, the smell, the flies to the numerous electrical shops it was just not my cup of tea. I could have been anywhere there was no sense of culture.... More

Lots of familiar shops in this High Street - BHS, Marks and Spencer, Dorothy Perkins, F&F (Tesco), but knowing that this is a tax free haven for cigarettes and booze I thought these clothes shops would be cheaper if no VAT but goods were the same price as at home! Jewellery is supposed to be a bargain buy but again... More

We visited in late September and were greeted with a torrential rain storm. We're stuck at the bus station for an hour or so. It was like looking from the back of Niagara Falls. Anyway we got to Main Street eventually but unfortunately all the power was cut. Visited a nice pub but unfortunately could not get a meal due... More

Nice enough to take a stroll. Same shops as in the UK and some souvenir shops available. Lots of places to have lunch.

I think my expectations were too high for Gibraltar. I wanted a cuter town but it was like any other tourist street on Europe. I did find a cute dolphin ring at a shop. There was a festival going on the day we visited. So there was lots of music and people around.

Plenty of the usual shops to browse but not many bargains unless sale on. If you drink and smoke you are in heaven but do be aware of customs limits. £10 for litre bottle of Tanqueray Gin. £23 for carton (200 cigarettes). Plenty of eating places.

A very pleasant stroll through the centre of town. Plenty of opportunity for you to part with your cash from the posh shops to the many food emporiums. Must recommend the Raja Hindustani in Kings Street. Their curries are fab.
