Runs through the city seperating the ancient & modern, with lovely multi-coloured housing hanging over the river
The Onyar River dissects the old and the new towns and is particularly interesting because of the colourfully painted houses that run along the river bank. Looking at its appearance, it seems as if Onyar River is struggling to flow through the charming town of Girona, taken over and probably intimidated by the colourful blocks of flats that seem to have their foundation deep in the river. Not a hugely impressive river in August, but one bridge has good-class craft stalls along it and there are many pedestrian bridges to cross on. The buildings next to the river are very pretty, painted in different colours. The whole city has an air of elegance and charm. Well-worth visiting for more than one day.
I love to walk my 2 puppies around the Onyar river a lovely wide river teaming with wild life. So many ducks swimming & splashing huge fish & a huge assortment of birds.A great place to shop for a picnic. The river connects the old Girona to the new.
We were really surprised to find the river, particularly where we were staying, had pretty much dried up. We asked about it at the hotel and they said it was normal. Where it was flowing freely it didn't appear especially deep there either. The buildings overlooking the river are very nice and make a good photo opportunity.
I just loved wandering Girona.. Crossing all the Bridges reminded me of Venice.. Interesting Fact is Gustave Eiffel designed the red painted one...
Even in April, the river level is very low, with a lot of grass and weeds growing in the river bed. The water looked quite brown. However the buildings along the banks are very pretty, and the city areas around the river are fabulous.
