Quiet and charming

A quiet and charming church. Good place to sit for a while and collect thoughts. Not as busy as other churches in the area

Free entrance, not that crowded. Also the surrounding area is a great place to wander around. Great ambiance of the church.

A lot of history to this church that needs to be read first to fully appreciate this otherwise dark building squeezed into the heart of the Born area

This church is in the El Born district of Barcelona, which in itself is a delightful place to explore its passageways and sights. Its jewel in the crown must be the Basillica of Santa Maria del Mar. You come across it almost by accident, situated as it is but once inside, wow. The stained glass is something to behold, especially... More

We ran across this beautiful church while exploring the area. The church was lovely inside and very different from the other basilica's we had visited. We enjoyed dining across from it and watching all of the people walk by.

The church is splendid. It takes your breath away when you enter. It's squeezed in between the old buildings around, so you don't see how beautiful it is until you enter. It's free to go inside, and you should. I've seen hundreds of churches, yet this was special.

We didn't pay to go inside but it's well worth it to sit on the drinking fountain just opposite or grab a drink in the square and watch out for tour guides. If you listen carefully you can get a fully history and interesting info about the church from the tour guides for free! After a pause in the shade... More

It was interesting to see the church, that plays such an important role in Ildefonso Falcones' novel "La Catedral del Mar". Worth a visit.

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
