The cathedral impressed me with its size, it was hard to believe that it was built on citizens' money. When I went inside I was marveled at its amazing stained glass windows. In my opinion, they aren't worse than in Notre Dame de Paris.

The Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar is one of the oldest cathedral in Barcelona . The structure outside is very gothic and detailed . Didn't go inside though but the view outside is more than enough for me.

Simply beautiful, but what really truly brought me in was the courtyard. It was stunning. It was my favorite part. It's so peaceful & the attitude changes completely from inside-out. It was 5 euros to get in when I was there.

Take the tour up the 70 or so narrow stairs and see part of Barcelona from high above. The beauty of this old church is in it's flowing design inside and out.

this is a beautiful Cathedral in the middle of the El Born area of Barcelona. You should pop into the cathedral on your way to dinner in one of the many amazing restaurants this area has to offer.

It's hard, after a point, to write reviews of Roman Catholic churches and cathedrals that aren't dull to me, as they all have so much in common. This one was a bit more majestic than some, and much less exuberant than many of its confreres.

From the outside this basilica looks very plain and simple, and then you come inside......WOW! An enormous expanse with some quite beautiful windows, some are repaired , the general atmosphere is just wonderful. Loved the small square it is on, a very special place.

I thorougly reccommend, if you are interested in history, the reading of "The sea Cathedral" which is the story of a guy involved with the construction of this iconic temple. Great surroundings, trendy bars and restaurants, but the grandeur of Barcelona in the XV century can be breath through every single corner of the area.

My first visit here was Dec. 2011. That time we went after dark; I recommend this. The church is particularly beautiful at night in the soft glow of the lights.

Most tourists will walk or pass by Santa Maria del Mar. It is a unique buliding a bit Gothic a bit Renaissance. If you have time , get in and enjoy, I love the sense of light not as splendorous as Gothic but more real. It is a great example of transition between two Ages in History therefore it is... More
