I'm from Barcelona and took lots of friends to the Basilica. It's amazing historical place not only for religious people. Its beauty is incredible and it's located in the Barri Gotic, the most beautiful quarter in Barcelona.

Massive church. Definitely impressive to see up close. I highly recommend taking a walk inside and exploring it. I been on a tour thru Europe and this church is the largest I've seen.

Spectacular high gothic structure. Covered shoulders required and no short short skirts or shorts allowed. Begun in the late 12th century, it is an amazing example of what can be done with will power and a lever.

I'm this kind of people who prefer the facade, in not an interior lover regarding religions buildings, even less if they're Catholic, but I have to admit that this building is different and if you have time you should get inside. Remember to book in advance so you won't spend too much time buying the tickets. There are few days... More

Must see. No question. Just do it. Tripadvisor requires more words but honestly words can't do justice. This is the real deal.

It is a memorable place, very peaceful inside. Not so much crowded, so you can be by yourself living the atmosphere. I'm especially touched by its story of how it is built and the story of the statue just in front of the church. I leave it to you to learn.

We enjoyed the guided tour. It was a spur of the moment, but the guided tour was educational and quite interesting. the guide provided a good history of Barcelona, and you are able to climb to the top of the tower to see the rest of the city -- and picture what it was like in the olden days during... Beautiful church. Take the time to visit, ladies are required to cover shoulders and men remove hats. It is probably not worth taking a tour, the visual experience is adequate. We were not required to pay an entry fee, but chose to leave a donation as we left. Worth a visit no matter what your religion.

Amazing architecture. A must see when visiting Barcelona. Views are amazing when you get out onto the roof.

Located in El Born, we passed this church many times before actually going inside. We ended up going on our last evening in Barcelona. We tried going the day before, but found out they charge during the day. (There are also tours you can pay for during the day, but we opted out of a tour.). Instead of paying during... More

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
