As many other people, I read about the construction of this cathedral in a famous romance by Falcones. Unfortunately, a marriage was being celebrated when I visited the Cathedral, nevertheless, I was fascinated by the style and the simple shapes in the Cathedral. Impressive, I loved it.

The book is a historical novel by Idelfonso Falcones. It is long but a well researched and interesting novel of the construction of the church and the characters involved. Then see the church to get an idea of how difficult it must have been to build it and the genius behind it's construction.

We did the little tour of the church , our guide took us on the roof of this lovely Catalan church and we were pleasantly surprised of what we learned about this old church. And on the rooftop we had a lovely vieuw of this part of the city

I will admit that I wasn't thrilled about the 6 euro charge to enter but it is a nice church with a nice courtyard but the thing that makes it totally worth the 6 euro is the elevator ride to the roof where you can walk around and get amazing views of the city and up close views of the... More

I was dissappointed by the inside for something so important to the city and as a central point for Catalan catholicism but its not particularly well articulated for tourists and the chapels and other decorations are not exciting. the basic structure is impressive however.

The place is absolutely gorgeous. But in its own way. Kind of minimalism mixed with middle age. A best seller book of the Cathedral was written also.

We were lucky enough to have gone in 10 minutes before a wedding started. I think what makes it so good is that during the Civil war it was ransacked and so the building's structure is unencumbered by pictures etc.

One can feel the past in the church. Seems to be a little neglected (leaking roofs??) but really worth visiting

The Santa Maria del Mar Church is a beautiful Gothic church. It was built between 1329 and 1383 by the architects Berenguer de Montagut and Ramon Despuig. It is too bad that most of the chapels were burned at the start of the Civil War. Still the church is quite unique and is worth visiting to see its architecture.
