bcnKITCHEN, just in the charming central district of El Born, is a local cooking school where we care about details, history, culture and gastronomy. Our love for food leads us from the school to a local food market in the very best center, where we buy some groceries and explain as much as we can around every little ingredient we see there, and back again to the school. Now, at this point, aprons on! Cook, learn, laugh, drink and enjoy while cooking. All around the kitchen, and then in the table, we’re going to get directly into Barcelona, Catalunya and Spain bite by bite, sip by sip.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our class w Chef Alvaro. He was so entertaining and educational. The time spent in the market was one of the highlights. The food was delicious--even if we cooked it. Better than a lot that I had later in restaurants. So glad I found this on TA and would highly recommend if you want... More

We loved our day at the market and cooking class. We were a group of 10 family and friends and everyone learnt something new. It was great food, and a great days entertainment. I would strongly recommend you go along.

the Spanish seafood paella class I took was not only very educational, as it was taught by the wonderful chef Amalia , but also great fun. I would recommend it to any one who enjoys cooking and Spanish food.

One of the best things I did on my trip to Barcelona and Madrid was to go to the BCN kitchen and share the cooking experience with Chef Alvaro. I went early in the trip and he gave us many restaurant recommendations and other not-to-miss things in Barcelona. A highlight was a trip to the market where he taught us... More

Really enjoyed our class, the size is large enough to meet new people but small enough to feel like you are really involved. Especially enjoyed the brief history and geography lesson to fully appreciate the context of the food we cooked. Our 10 year old daughter had a blast! appropriate for kids and adults.

Made one mistake, I did not take this course at the start of my month long visit to Barcelona! Book it before you get here and you'll not only pick up lots of great tips about all the classic Spanish dishes you will cook but also you'll get to walk around a fantastic local market. Chef Álvaro was professional, inspirational... More

Going to the Spanish cooking class (inc. market visit) at BCN Kitchen was hands-down the best thing I did during my stay in Barcelona! Al was our chef for the day, and he was so knowledgable, and he SHARED that knowledge throughout the day. I learnt a lot about Spanish produce during our market visit, & picked up tips &... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this cooking class, the trip to the market was great and informative and it was great to learn how to cook all the of Spanish classics. I have made the gazpacho since and now I feel very confident when it comes to picking a great paella.

I can't imagine that there is a better cooking class offered in Barcelona. Chef Alvaro is wonderful. Easy to understand, funny, kind one could not ask for a better instructor. He not only cares about teaching technique, but also about the culture that surrounds the meal. He is clearly passionate about what he does and as a result he does... More

On our honeymoon we came across BCN Kitchen and decided to give it a go. We've been to a lot of different cooking classes over the years and found this one to be more than fantastic. Sometimes you think you know it all (oh hang on, that might just be me?) but I really learned a LOT with Rais such... More

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
