bcnKITCHEN, just in the charming central district of El Born, is a local cooking school where we care about details, history, culture and gastronomy. Our love for food leads us from the school to a local food market in the very best center, where we buy some groceries and explain as much as we can around every little ingredient we see there, and back again to the school. Now, at this point, aprons on! Cook, learn, laugh, drink and enjoy while cooking. All around the kitchen, and then in the table, we’re going to get directly into Barcelona, Catalunya and Spain bite by bite, sip by sip.

This was a great way to learn so much about Barcelona and Spanish culture. The food and wine were thoroughly enjoyable and Amelia was lovely, helpful, and knowledgeable. I left feeling confident that I could make all 4 dishes myself at home.

This was a very enjoyable experience where we learned, had fun, and ate well. Our group was great with a mixture of families, friends and couples, and the class is very hands-on with each person contributing to different dishes. While the Boqueria market was really busy, Leena made it more interesting by explaining to us about Spanish ingredients and his... More

My daughters (ages 22 and 24) and I took Chef Alvaro's Market Visit and cooking class the day we arrived in Barcelona. After traveling all night from the states, we thought we might not make it with any energy, but Chef Alvaro was entertaining and interesting and made the market visit and class so much fun and enjoyable. Not only... More

My boyfriend and I had a great time. The chef was very knowledgable about the market during the tour and had great tips for the recipes. The seafood paella was amazing and the crema catalana was fantastic as well! The only down sides were that it took us an hour to actually find the place! We asked several people that... More

My 18 year old son and I were visiting Barcelona so signed up for the BCN kitchen at La Boqueria market. We had Chef Amelia who was delightful. First, we went through the market buying items for the food we were going to make. We learned how to tell which food were fresh, to choose purple headed prawns for the... More

Really wonderful course with Chef Alvaro and his team. Set above the famous La Boqueria market it includes a walk around the market with Al learning about the different produce- the secrets of choosing jamon, the right tomatoes for pam tomat, etc and then back to the kitchen where a group of 14 cooked lunch-each small group cooking a different dish.... Chef Alvaro was thorough in his explanations and demonstrations. Even a kitchen klutz like me was able to follow and imitate him. Our 12 year old granddaughter found Alvaro and the class enjoyable. It was one of the highlights of our week in Barcelona.

We had such a fun time learning to make different Spanish dishes. Our instructor was great- giving us many cooking tips that I could apply to anything. The class came with enough food and wine to be content for the rest of the day. Well worth the money!

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighborhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighborhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
