Montserrat is an exceptional place to visit and spend a bit of time. The journey there is an adventure, having to either drive a steep road up to the monastery built in the rock, or taking the funicular train. The view is stunning as you can see all around the countryside. In a small chapel, you can view what is... More

Great trip outside Barcelona. Took the train out and the tram up the mountain. Great views. A little scary getting in the tram and coming back down, plus a little crowded. But overall worth it.

I could never imagine that the monastery would be right there, on those yellow sandy rocks. The gold statue is believed to make miracles - everyone needs one in their lives....

I really enjoyed the trip there and the boys choir was beautiful to hear. But the crowds and the lines were so bad! Unless you have a religious need to see the black Madonna or hear the choir I would rather stay in Barcelona.

We did this as part of our tour and it's amazing. You can spend a couple hours here or all day if you would like to hike or take the gondola rides. Beautiful museum and I really loved the video experience telling about the children that attend school there and showing an average day for the Monks that live there.... More

Even if religion is not your thing, do this tour for the views and of course the wine :) The tour starts in Barcelona and is followed by a drive through to Montserrat, a truly breathtaking mountain where you are able to take a tram to the top of the mountain and enjoy a scenic walk down (I recommend packing... We took this tour as we had children with us. Reviews were promising so we decided to book it. And that was not a mistake. The bus was waiting on us on Placa Catalunya, our driver and our guide were both excellent. As for the Montserrat itself, what a great place! But for those planning to climb the famous statue... Took this tour because we only had 2 days in Barcelona and did not want to miss Montserrat. This tour left Placa Catalunya at 3pm and got us back at 7pm. Our tour guide was excellent and gave us a lot of information throughout the bus ride, not just in Montserrat. Montserrat is as breathtaking as its photos, it is... More

It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences.
