Surrounded by narrow, traffic-free streets, the Catedral in the Barri Gotic quarter of Barcelona is a lovely, calm place. I loved the golden pillars that rise up to the ceiling. The building is Gothic, dates from 1298 to 1460, except the facade was made in the 1870's. Right now (summer 2007) they are doing some restoration to the facade, so... more
They must get fed up here with people calling Sagrada Familia a 'cathedral'. La Seu, Barcelona's actual cathedral, is a Gothic and 19th century concoction (not that the 19th century additions are noticeably so) which is well worth a visit - although it's a more conventional church attraction than Sagrada Familia.
